We'd like to tell you about MUM CAT'S STORY
In May this year we were presented with a very sad case. An adult female cat, which Dr Ruben fondly named “mum cat”, was hit by a car and brought to us by a kind Indian man who worked near the car park in which she lived.
She was in severe shock, covered in dirt, cold and severely injured. Her pelvis, left femur (back leg) and right radius/ulna (front leg) were all badly broken. We have seen a great deal of trauma during our time as vets, and precious few cats will survive such a complicated number of injuries in spite of the care they receive.
But mum cat was a fighter and shocked us the next day by starting to eat and purr. Using some funds kindly donated into The Veterinary Hospital stray fund, we began to go through the lengthy process of healing her.
Dr Ruben enjoys orthopaedic surgery and was happy to face this challenge. He preformed four different surgeries on her broken limbs in an attempt to save all of them. The process has taken four months of treatment and she was a willing happy patient through all of it. She is now being fostered by one of our nurses who is able to give her the physio she needs every day. She is walking comfortably on all fours and would definitely set off the metal detector at the airport!
Some animals simply have an extreme will to live, and Mum cat is definitely one of those. We are confident she will settle in a happy home one day and leave the car park she once lived in behind her.
