Review: Mastey Hair Products
As a lifelong fan or so it sometimes seems of Reflections Salon, Tina and her staff it is not hard to get me along to the salon so I was really interested to hear they are now using a new (to Dubai) range of products called Mastey Paris.
Mastey is of particular interest to me as its products do not contain either Ammonia or Sulfates, substances that have bothered me for some time. Ammonia as we all know helps retain the hydrogen peroxide molecule longer in the hair and opens the cuticle to allow the penetration of the colour but it smells horrible and is not really the type of chemical I am happy applying to my skin. Sulfates are another no no for me as they have been proven to cause all sorts of nasty effects and are in fact really harsh chemical surfactants which are easily absorbed by the skin.
Having spent many years checking the labels on shampoo, conditioner etc I have discovered that more have sulfates than don’t and finding a brand that is safe to use is not easy.
Henri Mastey pioneered and developed sulfate free shampoo and the first Tri-base ammonia free permanent colour back in the seventies and uses a powerful anti oxidant derived from grape seed to condition the hair so it can take and keep the colour better.
The product ranges from “Use me First” which is a hair purifier through to your normal shampoos, conditioners, moulders etc. They are all reasonably priced but have to purchased from a Salon.
My hair is a myriad of colour which I normally change every three months or so, I find the sun and general living conditions here in the UAE impact on the colour and it is a constant battle to keep it looking bright. But, I have to say the Mastey colours look fantastic; the colour was applied using the foil technique, another Mastey first (Henri developed this method in the 1950’s) and after a couple of hours I was looking half decent again! The condition of my hair is great and I intend keeping the colour bright by using the various products from within the range.
We live in a harsh world and it is great to know the range isn’t introducing further chemicals into my body.
