Session 7 – Sunday 7 March
Knowing that as a group we’re getting stronger and fitter I was expecting to be pushed a bit further at camp this week – well this is exactly what happened this evening with our new trainer James. Unless my eyes had deceived me, I’m sure the coned course which we run around to warm up had got a couple of metres bigger ;-) which was immediately followed by a sprint up an incline from the sea back up the beach, ahhhhhh! We then went into the resistance training, carrying out a series of the usual squats, push ups, burpees….you know the drill by now….with jogging between exercises for – yes this is correct – recovery time! James got us all really focusing on our breathing, and despite feeling pretty pooped, I did notice that I was recovering and getting my heart rate down again much quicker that the previous couple of weeks.
Session 8 – Tuesday 9 March
A fat burning, cellulite busting cardio workout this evening, which got me sweating more than a walk to the corner shop on a Dubai summers day! We were running up and down the beach – all sticking together as “we’re a group now”! We were all excited to see David back this evening – after sweating, wincing, groaning and cheering with him for the past couple of weeks you start to feel quite a bond with your trainer.
Session 9 – Thursday 11 March
Three quarters of the way through camp – the end is in sight – and by now I’m feeling noticeably fitter. This evening was a mix of cardio and resistance training, mixing teamed relay races with exercises working from the top (press ups and, ouch!, tricep dips), lower (squats, lunges (of the pizza variety – which involves a twist of the body to get rid of those unsightly ‘love handles’)) and middle body (sit ups and the core-strengthening killer The Plank)! We all had great fun this evening and I was amazed at how fast my little legs (those of you that have met me will know that I’m 5ft nothing) will move when threatened with 10 push ups if our team loses the relay race!
Just one week left and I’m excited about getting the results of our final fitness assessment, as I know we’ve all come on so far. I feel so much fitter, slimmer and more toned – I’m really enjoying my Bootcamp experience (I promise I’m not just saying that) and don’t really know what I’d do without it in my life now.
