Friday Brunch at Meydan Restaurant
With British, Australian, Arabic, Italian, French and Asian dishes, you are invited to ‘indulge in signature cuisine from the world’s horseracing destinations as you enjoy stunning views of the Meydan Racecourse.’
We were swiftly shown to our table with a brief tour of the buffet. The setting was impressive with a different ambience in each section. Spectacular, panoramic views of the racecourse certainly dominated the afternoon, even though there wasn’t a horse in sight. The decor of this golden, transparent hotel is in keeping with the race theme, as modern horse shoes don everything in sight from the uniforms, to the walls to the carpet-although it’s not overkill! A stunning outdoor terrace awaits you as you walk through the glass, with nothing to obstruct your view-a perfect place to take a breath of fresh air...
Good, attentive staff and swift drinks were the order of the day. The chef’s were knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions you had about the food as you wandered from section to section. My husband was fascinated by the live Sushi Station and I was quite taken by the Italian and French quarter, as I tried a variety of pasta dishes rarely seen at a brunch. The Panini Station seemed a little quiet, although quite a unique addition to the brunch. Foie gras was even on the menu, which I simple had to try! Sea-food lovers had a huge choice and the presentation was quite impressive too!
Desserts were just as varied across the different cultures and I enjoyed selecting a wide range across all of the countries, purely in the name of research of course... Personally I would recommend the Pistachio and Coffee slice...divine! As a non-drinker at this event, it was nice to have a wide range of freshly prepared juices at your request, which you could personally choose at the counter or order from your table.
For those of you with children, the ballroom was delightfully converted into a children’s play area, complete with bouncy castle, clowns, face painting and ball den! I was kind of hoping to have a little play myself, although we were swiftly moved back to the grown up area! It was nice to have children around, although the layout of the venue was effective in that they had to space to run around without impinging on other people’s space, if you are not so child-friendly yourself.
On the whole; a lovely brunch which we both enjoyed! The quality and selection of food was good, staff were fantastic, who paid close attention to detail and requests. But the winning factor for me was the venue-absolutely stunning!
