Toshi, Grand Millenium Hotel

Nestled upon the 18th floor of the Grand Millenium Hotel in Tecom, this atmospheric restaurant, Toshi has one of my favourite settings in Dubai. Admittedly, there is a lot of construction in the area but Toshi is as such a level that you do not notice it and at night, you are met with a sparkling, panoramic view of the Palm and the Sheikh Zayed Road which is lovely. The decor of this beautiful restaurant is funky, yet echoes the traditional style of the Orient. A nice touch is the open, glass walled kitchen where you can witness your chef prepare your dinner from across the restaurant. The menu boasts cuisines from Thailand, China and Japan and a good range of sushi, sashimi and dim sum. Yum!

As you arrive, walk over a Japanese bridge to a welcoming desk where you are kindly ushered to your table. Reservations can get quite full at times, so it is best to book beforehand. We had a lovely table overlooking the Palm and the Sheikh Zayed Road, alongside a ‘running brook’ illuminated with lights; very zen!

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening, to sample their Teppanyaki Buffet Night. As always there was a decent selection of tasty starters, including Edamame beans, salads, shrimp, prawn crackers, dim sum and sushi, our favourite being the Kanni Salad (Crab stick salad with an amazing kick!). However, after visiting the Teppan cooking station, I almost wish that I had not filled up on the delicious starters, as I wanted more room for the main course...

I was impressed with our Teppan Chef, who cooked our food on the live cooking station before us. A delectable choice of lamb, chicken, beef, shrimp, hammour, salmon and vegetables were available. Cooked simply with your choice of flavours, the meat was to die for! My peschetarian husband was suitably happy with his choice of fish, in fact so much so, that he went up for seconds! I sat with a full tummy, wishing I could squeeze in some more!

The dessert range in the buffet was quite small and filled with the usual choices as seen in most buffets around Dubai; tiramisu, fresh fruit, chocolate cake and miniature glasses filled with a variety of creamy puddings. As a girl, of course it was my duty to sample as many different flavours as possible...so I marched back to my table with as many different ones as I could! Lol!Service was impeccable; swift, friendly, efficient and informative. The team here are very effective and certainly make your experience enjoyable. I love the range of uniforms that the staff wear on a variety of different themed nights, endorsing the flavours of that particular evening.

When you leave the restaurant, it is worth popping into the neighbouring bar, which is a contrast in colours and has a relaxing vibe. And if you have time it right for the 10pm-12am happy hour, you’ll be glad that you did! Bright, strings of rainbow coloured lights stream down the windows as you relax on a cream, leather couch or chill at the bar. Delightful.
