Al Maha Resort

For any of you who have survived the summer without your partner and are in need of some “together time” to rekindle the reason you met and fell in love I can heartily recommend a visit to the revamped Al Maha.

It is a complete escape as children below the age of sixteen are not allowed and as much as we all love our children it is wonderful to enjoy some time away from both your own and other’s.

We arrived at the entrance, which is located approximately 40 minutes drive from Dubai on the Al Ain road, and were whisked away by our Guide, Mitch for the 10 minutes car journey into the resort. Mitch explained the philosophy of the resort and also the activities, which are on offer, these range from Falconry, Horse Riding, Sunset Camel Trek with complimentary glass of the bubbly stuff and archery.

Sadly for us the first two options were only available at 0500, which seemed a trifle early but as the weather cools down it is possible to partake of these at a later time in the day.

Having been offered a refreshing fruit cocktail we were taken by golf buggy to our suite, which was truly magnificent. The views over the individual deck, complete with plunge pool were stunning and the interior of the suite lived up to this. With glass all around, you can take in the views from your Chaise Lounge inside or on your pool lounger outside.

The bathroom is worthy of a special note; it is very Arabic in style with a huge bath, fabulous Bulgari toiletries and walk in shower. It can also be accessed from the plunge pool.

Meals can be taken in the restaurant or you can have dinner in the privacy of your own deck. The food was of a very high standard and the service staff excellent.

After lunch, we took a much needed rest and prepared for the Sunset Camel Trek which was very amusing as there is nothing like a herd (?) of bad tempered camels jostling along to make you laugh. The camels are all tied together so if one goes they all go! The view of the sunset over the dunes was superb and worthy of a picture postcard, the ideal end to the day.

If your idea of luxury is complete R&R then the newly opened Spa would be perfect. It is located around a large swimming pool and offers a variety of treatments.

Our only regret is that one night is not enough; in order to fully enjoy the wildlife and also take advantage of the solitude you need at least two nights! So pack your bags, sort out a babysitter and treat yourself.
