Agree Tiki I used to do that when I had a car and lived on that side of town....Local abra is 1 dirham per person.......It is amazing to see all the dhows being loaded by hand and wondering how the cargo arrives at its final destination...

Never caught a taxi but probably ten minutes - 20 minutes depending on the traffic....
You could also get off at Al Rigga metro station.. and get a taxi......Don't think there would be much difference in time... Really just depends on the traffic
and catching a taxi going the right way....

One thing I love to do is to park the other side of the river and take the boat (the old ones, where everybody goes - cost 1 or 2 or 5 dihram/pers.). Boats arrive at the spice souk, and then we walk to the gold souk. It makes a nice morning/afternoon for guests.

Catch metro to Union station , catch a taxi or catch a bus from Maktoum street ,which is outside the metro station (you will have to ask which exit out of the station)
At the bus stop there is a time table to see which bus to catch or ask someone the bus to the gold souk.... The bus runs along the creek down past the spice souk .
You can get off at the spice souk .. or the gold souk bus stop. The bus drivers are very helpful and if they tell him the want to get off at the spice souk he will help .. The buses seem to run every 15-20 minutes...

Coming back they need to catch a bus from the Gold souk bus station back to Union station.... There is an office there to ask which bus..
