Thanks Sarah82 & all of you
who took the time to guide me...
, greatly appreciated !

That Sleeptalk sounds great....(well,
it depends what we say in our sleep, yikes!)

I have made a list and now hoping hubby
actually d/loads some of these
during his business trip (I'm holding my breath).

Sleeptalk
- records during the night and saves any talking sounds you may make. You can listen to them in the morning. You don't have to trawl through hours of recording, it o ly saves the noises. Lots of fun and I found out I sometimes talk in my sleep! Very weird to hear myself say things I can't remember saying.

Aging booth
- ages any photo of a face realistically.

Viber
- free calls between iPhones. Easier to use than skype which takes time to load etc.

iBooks
- you quite often get great books in the free category (proper full length books), just have a good search.

Emoji free
- let's you add emoticons/smilies into your SMS etc.

Whatsapp
- I'm sure everyone knows about this, but you can send free SMS, including photos and videos to anyone else who also has whatsapp.

Some points I want to share =) -
1. You can now zoom using the normal iPhone camera
2. You can now group your apps together into folders (press down on one and drag it onto another to put them in a folder together). For eg I have a folder for games, one for website shortcuts, one for utilities etc.
3. You can stop your phone from connecting to the Internet (which was a massive problem before) by turning off cellular data in the settings.

To do this you need to make sure your iPhone software is up to date which you can check when logging on to iTunes on your computer and plugging in your phone.

One application that I have on my BB, but you can get it for any smart phone is Shazam! You know when you hear a song and can't remember who it is and it totally does your head in? Well you get the application to listen to the tune, it searches through it's library and tells you the artist, titel, album etc - you have so many free goes a month or can pay for unlimited use - genius!

OK thanks all...so let me see if I have this
all clear....

the applications you have recommended
are best d/loaded outwith the UAE?

The fitness one is a must...especially w/festive eating on the
doorstep, thanks for that!

With me some of them I did manage to download here, but I still cannot get Itunes - grrrrrr
The fitness one you definitely can, but I would wait until Jan to download - that Christmas lunch just won't taste the same if I'm counting calories

Facebook
Skype
The Converter (conversion of many different measurements)
Weight Watchers
RunPee (tells you the best time to go pee during a movie - and summarizes what you missed! Never actually used it during a film, but can't wait to!)

Once you have a Skype account you can open that account on any computer or phone :0)

As far as I know(check previous threads) if your phone has Facetime it will work but the phones coming from Du and Etisalat don't have it as it is a form of VOIP which is illegal here. If you buy a phone outright, I think (only think) they have it.

The prices of the apps are the same wherever you are; however, I was convinced that somethings wouldn't be available here so I set up my I-tunes app account as though I'm in the UK so if there's anything you can't get here, i will still be able to get it.

Just about to purchase an iPhone.....

so are applications not free of charge?

If I already have Skype etc.,
can I transfer this to the iPhone
or is it altogether a different process?

Is it better for me to d/load applications in the UK vs. here?

Does faceTime work here?

TIA for any feedback/advice you may offer....

I sometimes pay for mine but only ever 59p at the most!

I use:

Calengoo - to sync my Google calenders (3 altogether)
7.0 MPX - this is a zoom for the camera
Skype
All recipes - this is the best I've found so far but it's not great
