Kathmandu Review
Kathmandu is only a short four and half hours away from Doha direct with Qatar Airways or if you are on a budget, you can fly with Fly Dubai as their fares start from 1045QR per person with all the taxes included!!
Nepal’s capital is situated in a valley full of historic sites, ancient temples and shrines, golden pagodas and some fascinating villages. Shops offer handicrafts, carpets and Nepali paper prints and bus services, taxi’s and bicycles open up the city for you to explore. You can trek to see the Monkey Temple which is the valleys oldest and most sacred shrines. You can mingle with the locals in Durbar Square where you will find craft markets and other touristy things but we found the best place to stay is in the Thamel District as it is the tourist hub.
Hotels, Bars and Restaurants cater to all budgets. It is always bustling with hordes of tourists all year around. There are innumerable souvenir shops, restaurants, bars and so on to cater for all tastes. Like all places so cultural, the streets are full of street vendors trying to sell their handiwork. You will find most of what you can buy in Souq Waqif here also but it is a third cheaper. We found you could pick up a Nepalese Violin of all things for a mere 8QR!!! So of course now, both my kids are extremely musical.
Of course you can’t visit Nepal without seeing the Himalayas and the famous Mount Everest. Buddhaair.Com offer charter flights over the mountain range and each passenger is invited into the cockpit one by one to watch Mount Everest looming ahead infront of you.
Whilst your in the Middle East it is definitely worth taking a few days out to see these magnificent places that are on the doorstep.
Safe Travels!!
