I'm a dog owner and walker who scoops up religiously and I utterly appreciate what you are all saying about dogs in parks where people take their children to play, and the beach, of course, as well. How feasible do you think it would be to do what AQ suggests? There would obviously be a huge take up on a dog park if it were in the right area, but how likely is it that the Dubai Municipality would sanction such a project in the first place?

Completely agree - this is not a discussion about how wonderful pets are in a family, it's more why are they not allowed in parks and the simple answer is that it only takes 1 irresponsible owner to spoil it. I go walking around my local villas and have to walk in the road because there is so much excrement on the pavements. I pass dogs being walked (usually by the helpers) with not a poop bag in sight and it makes me physically sick. In the UK I refuse to walk on grass as I'm so terrified of getting dog sh*t everywhere and that is one fantastic thing about Dubai - no dogs allowed in the parks and I for one hope they keep it that way.

I am sure no matter how much people try to convince you that dogs are part of the family you will not understand this!
I hope you have lots of family around especially when you are home alone and lonely, because I have my lovely companions who will always give me love and company.
This is why we have dogs or cats( I'm not a cat person) to have that never lonely feel.
A zoo is for wild animals that is why they are behind fences, dogs are domestic animals meaning belong in a house .
In saying my bit you will never change but please accept us that do love our dogs and they need a park to socialize like people who walk around shopping centers to do the same

Why so nasty? Just because it might be your culture to take animals to the park, it is not mine. The parks are made for families.....

Because your comment was condesending and not constructrive. Plus you advocated probably the WORST place to go and see animals.

Yes but given the amount of animals that are here, it really is about time there were a few designated areas for people to take their dogs. People still need to be educated about cleaning up after them, but as you've stated it happens everywhere.

Some people sadly will never learn. Even at the dog show, I ran up to a lady after her GSD messed on the concrete and gave her a bag and told her to clean up after it - she refused and just walked off! I hate these people!

where are we supposed to walk our pets? Its very sad!

last weekend, we took our pet cat (yes, cat!) to the park..she was on a harness so wouldn't bother anyone and got stopped by security saying pets were not allowed. 5-year old DS was gutted We live in a flat so our poor cat doesn't even have a patch of grass to roll on and we thought we would try to take her out for a bit of a change but everywhere is so pet-unfriendly!

We usually let her on the balcony to sun-bathe which she loves and which also means she gets a spot of fresh air but i really thought she would also enjoy some nice grass and a change of scene - well, we weren't even given a chance!

hmmphhh...no wonder so many kids here are cruel to animals..they don't get much exposure and keeping a pet is so difficult with everywhere being anti-pets!

can we talk about the workers having a **** in the alley beside my villa, spitting the juice they chew and having a pee, ?????and they do not bag their poop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and its a heck of alot bigger than dog poop and the smell is enough to knock you over so.......people bags for their poop, will hang them beside our villa
can we also talk about bird poop in the lawns, bug poop....you will never see people pee so dont think you are walking in a pristine environment just because there are not dogs lol.....that is what is called....life lol.....

I bring my doggies to the park where i live in Springs and to say he is the star of the park is an understatement. All the kids love him and play with him and chase him- its great for all of them to become socialised with dogs. Obviously, we dont leave them alone and they are always supervised and we pick up after them etc etc.

Thats a shame you couldnt bring your kitty somewhere- def look into the grass box perhaps!

I think very expat areas such as springs and ranches etc you can take pets to the local park

Please don't advertise these areas for dogwalking, there is already enough dogs**t in the comunal areas now, don' t want to imagine it with the dogs from the rest of dubai going there for walkies. I know everybody seems to pick up after their dogs, but then how come there is still so much dog waste left behind?

Well I have my little dog bag roll in a bone that I carry with me. I see so many other people without bags, but I never catch them in the act! And I can't just say something if I don't see them not pick up.

Ok, no need to snap my head off! I was merely enquiring as clearly there aren't any 'parks' to take dogs, so I was curious as to where Freckly was taking her dog! FYI, I only walk my boy around the lakes and on the grassy area next to my villa and he's not off the lead, but other dogs frequently are.

It does annoy me when other owners let their dogs off the lead as it's not allowed in public areas.

Please note that I did NOT say I take my dog to any park - perhaps learn to read a post first hey. And tell the difference between a quote and a reply.

Where is this 'park' is the Springs? There's a large grassy area opposite our villa. My wee one always gets bundled by various dogs if we go on there. I usually head through meadows 5 and walk around the lake there with him.

That is gross....I think it's the norm in a lot of cultures to spit....but inside?!!!
Reminds me of when I was at uni, I used to live in an area where a lot of the population used to chew on tobacco leaves (?) and they used to leave these horrid yellowy orange spit stains everywhere....the local council had to put " no spitting" signs up in the end, because it was so unsightly!
Sounds like that may be a good idea here too....lol

I actually think dogs are cute, but not in playgrounds - these are designated areas for children to play, some people, as we've learnt in the past week, do not restrain their dogs appropriately and I wouldn't like to think these dogs are playing with my children. I also wouldn't like to see children on play equipment with dogs/cats jumping around them. That's totally separate from the poo thing.

Couldn't agree more - I'm sure my children would love to run free for a bit, eat off the floor (bowls on the floor, obviously ), lick people, sniff around - but they are so strict about access to these places - totally VIP and children are just not on the list Big Grin

Yes, some dogs and cats are much cleaner than people here - many pet owners treat their animals like royalty with LV collars and leads (my father's wife!), daily baths, grooming etc. which is much cleaner than some I've met.

Ooooh the spitting - a big gut turner for me! DS began spitting when he was 4, I was HORRIFIED! He said the driver did it. I was NOT HAPPY. Then - I'd FINALLY gotten him to forget about 'spitting', we were in the car, the driver puts down the window and spits again! I was NOT... HAPPY... (JAN!)... after this he never spat near myself or children again... although am sure it was done!

On my first weekend in this country I was in Satwa, saw a man spit into his HAND (why? I DON'T know!), then put money into the hand he'd just spat in and 'cleaned' it off with the money!

Where is all of this spitting happening? Every time I log in there is a reference to men spitting all over the UAE.
Clearly, I don't get out enough!

Sure sure of course I think a dog park would be cool though, like a dog run or something similar. I would be afraid to have my dog off leash around other people's children. Not because my dog was ever dangerous but at the end of the day, well, they are dogs and who knows what they might do.
