American Women's Network Abu Dhabi

The American Women's Network (AWN) facilitates contact, support and an information exchange for both new arrivals and long-time residents. Through social events and special programs, AWN provides a platform for integrating into the community. Formed in 1994 by a group of expatriates from North America, AWN welcomes all women with links to the Americas.

AWN's strategic goals include:

• Welcoming newcomers
• Providing information about the region
• Offering activities that inform and entertain
• Accommodating working, as well as non-working women and their spouses
• Interacting with the local community
• Supporting philanthropic endeavors

Membership:
There is no charge for membership in AWN. We would love to know more about you and help you connect to others with like interests. To receive the AWN Monthly Newsletter and mid-month bulletin you must fill out our AWN Membership Form. We also invite you to join us on Facebook.

Ambassador Program:
AWN is very proud of our Ambassador Program. Remember who helped you your first weeks here, or consider how much you wished someone had? The response to our Ambassador Program, from both newcomers and old hands, has been excellent. We have matched thirty-five newcomers with Ambassadors since the AWN Ambassador program began last spring. The larger our pool of available Ambassadors, the better we can match newcomers with old-timers, in terms of similar geographic location and lifestyle, making a more satisfying relationship for both sides. An Ambassador relationship can last a week, or a lfetime, as you wish. So please, step up and help a newcomer adjust quickly to this lovely city.

Some suggested activities include:

• Provide transport to AWN coffees and other events
• Introduce her to the AWN Guidebook
• Help her learn about taxis and bus routes
• Invite her to join you in a few daily activities, like shopping
• Provide an email or telephone 'ear' for questions about daily life
• Provide a friendly voice of encouragement if she is down

Guidebook
The AWN Guidebook "Living in Abu Dhabi" is one of the most helpful guidebooks around. If you are moving to Abu Dhabi, you will find a variety of topics such as finding a home, hiring a real estate agent, bringing the correct documents and locating schools all contained in the Guidebook. Rather than the tourist angle, this book is aimed at those of us who need to get through our daily lives in a new and unfamiliar place. There are sections on "Things to do in Abu Dhabi" and "Finding your New Home", as well as completely updated information on Shopping, Restaurants, Licensing, Schools, etc.

Maps highlight key locations for each section. Nowhere else is there a compilation of all that Abu Dhabi has to offer from the unique point of view of us expatriates....
