Abu Dhabi Netball League Updates

Inter-Gulf Netball Championship to hit the Capital 1st and 2nd March 2013

The Abu Dhabi Netball League is proud to announce that Abu Dhabi will host the 2013 Inter-Gulf Netball Championships.

The capital’s top netball stars have started preparations to defend their Inter-Gulf Netball Championships title at this year’s highly anticipated Inter-Gulf Netball Championships in Abu Dhabi, an annual gathering of the Gulf’s top netball teams. Abu Dhabi fended off teams from across the Gulf to win all three division trophies at the 2012 Tournament, held in Al Ain, and are strongly determined to keep them in the Capital in 2013.

Kellie Pomeroy, Chairperson of the ADNL said: “We are delighted to bring to the Capital the biggest Netball Tournament the Gulf has to offer. Abu Dhabi has fantastic purpose built facilities at Sheikh Zayed Sports City. We look forward to welcoming the teams to Abu Dhabi and to host an efficacious tournament!”

The ADNL have selected 5 ladies teams and 2 men’s teams, comprised of the Emirate’s top players to represent the Capital at the Inter-Gulf Netball Championships in Abu Dhabi on March 1-2. The championships, acknowledged as the Gulf’s premier netball competition attract teams from countries all across the region including Oman, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Entry to the event is free of charge and refreshments will be on sale for spectators.
A raffle draw will also take place and great prizes can be won by the supporters.

ADNL has been established for over ten years and caters for competitive and social players.

Our aim is to allow those who participate at a high level achieve their full potential, whilst also recognising that the league provides a strong social network for its members.

The majority of women are between the ages of 16 – 45, catering for students to those working in a professional career.

ADNL is a not-for-profit organisation and is run by a board that meets regularly to manage the financial, coaching, administrative and social aspects of the club.

The league is prominent in the expatriate community and maintains close links to business and sporting groups.

Given the social aspects of the league, support and interest of spouses and partners is high.

In the UAE alone, there are over 600 netballers that compete weekly and the numbers are rising significantly every year.

Netball is the world’s most popular team game for women, and is played over 72 countries by over 8 million people.
