Abu Dhabi Airport to Be One of the World's Largest

If you've been looking forward to the new massive terminal in Abu Dhabi, you'll have to wait a little longer.

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new $2.94 billion Midfield Terminal will make the airport one of the largest in the world once completed.

The terminal was originally meant to open in summer 2016, then got delayed until December 2017. It was recently announced that it’s only going to be ready in 2019.

Covering over 742,000 square metres, the terminal will have a capacity of up to 30 million passengers a year. That means the Abu Dhabi International Airport will have a capacity of 45 million passengers per year.

It will have a unique design, with a curved roof that gives off the appearance that it’s floating across 18 steel arches. It can be seen from 1.5km away.

The new terminal will be home to 65 aircraft gates, with eight of them reserved for Airbus A380 aircrafts, and 3,500 square metres of duty-free zones.

There will be massive parking facilities created for the terminal. The short-term covered parking is expected to hold 3,400 cars while the long-term parking is expected to have 1,500 car spots.
