Road Closures in Abu Dhabi This Weekend

The Abu Dhabi Tour returns to the Capital this week, but if you're planning on driving anywhere in the Emirate over the coming days, you may want to plan an alternate route...

Or make it the perfect excuse to stay in and watch TV all weekend?

Yes, the event has already begun, as the first leg of the tour occured on Thursday (23rd Feb). But while many of you are no doubt working or occupied elsewhere, it'll probably be the weekend you face the most frustration if you do head out.

Due to the tour, around 188km of roads will be closed between Liwa and Madinat Zayed, so if you're in the area be prepared for delays or complete rerouting on the E45 and E90 between midday and 6pm.

Friday will see the event remain in the city for the Nation Tower stage, so major road closures will include the Corniche, Al Khaleej Al Arabii Street and Sheikh Khalifa Highway.

Corniche Road will be completely closed to traffic between 1pm and 2pm on the first pass cyclists take, and then again later on from 4pm to 5.15pm as they make their way towards the finish line. Other roads that will be closed include Hazza bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Zayed Street, Al Bateen Street and the Grand Mosque Interchange.

The third day of the tour on Saturday (25th Feb) will see riders make their way along the E95, E20 and E16 roads in Al Ain before cycling the 11km climb up to Jebel Hafeet, so drivers should expect delays in the area from midday along these routes.

So any plans you've made to drive and meet your friends or family, you might want to rearrange to save being stuck in traffic. Otherwise, it'll be the perfect chance to witness some hardcore cycling so you can cheer from the sidelines!
