The Social Network
While offices around the world are busy discussing the moral dilemma of allowing their 12 year old daughters to create a “profile” because “all their friends have one”, grandad’s sit confused at their old school computers with looks of bewilderment as they attempt to accept a “friend request”. This phenomenon could only be explained by one thing; Facebook. So, naturally, when a movie comes out which endeavours to show the world how such a widely loved concept came to be, a large buzz ensues. Needless to say this movie lives up to the hype!
The Social Network tells the story of how Facebook a mere six years ago was created by Mark Zuckerberg and best friend Eduardo Saverin (teen genius’ attending Harvard) and how the events proceeding led to multiple lawsuits being filed against Zuckerberg and the demise of his personal relationships. The opening scene shows Zuckerberg being dumped by his girlfriend before embarking on a drunken revenge which kickstarts the amazing events which would come to define a generation. The plot is both captivating and shocking.
If you like your story lines fast moving and your scripts beautifully written and witty it’s definitely a must see movie. The film is mainly dialogue but the cinematography is striking enough to keep the viewer compelled from beginning to end. The characters are enigmatic and will stay lodged in your mind for days after – and not just because of Justin Timberlake’s beauty!
