Taking a taxi in Abu Dhabi is about to get a bit more expensive with new base fares and prices coming into effect soon.

Taking a taxi in Abu Dhabi is about to get a bit more expensive. For the first time in five years, there are changes being made to the minimum fare, base charge and price per kilometre.
Currently, the base metre charge starts at Dh3.50 between 6am and 10pm. This will rise to Dh5, similar to Dubai. Throughout the night, the charge will change from Dh4 to Dh5.50.
The fares will increase from Dh1.60 per kilometre to Dh1.82 per kilometre. There will also be a charge of 50 fils per minute when the car is not moving.

Additionally, the minimum tariff for a trip at any time has been set to Dh12. If you're thinking of booking a cab ahead of time, you will be charged a fee of Dh4 during the day and Dh5 during the night.
For taxis taken from the airport, the metre will start at Dh20 for a sedan and Dh25 for a van.
These new prices will come into effect exactly one month after their publication in the official Gazette. The last time there were hikes was in 2012.
