German Ladies of Abu Dhabi

GLAD (German Ladies of Abu Dhabi) is a group of German women who are currently making their home in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. GLAD offers newcomers a chance to find their way around their new surroundings here in the capital, and the existing members take the opportunity to welcome and meet new people while making new friends.

The group was established in 1995 and currently has about 210 members of various nationalities, providing an information forum for German-speaking women, helping them to more quickly settle into their new environment, to adjust and become accustomed to the culture and people of our host country.

With a team of volunteers to organize a series of outings, events, sporting activities, cooking demonstrations, shopping tours, monthly coffee mornings etc, the German speaking ladies have always something going on, and have lots of fun. A monthly newsletter, provides information about events that are of interest for German speakers in the UAE, these events are well attended, and always fun.

There is a monthly evening meeting ‘Abendstammtisch’ for the ladies who may be working during the day, or are unable to go along to the coffee mornings, husbands are welcome to attend, and is a good social mixer.

An annual joining fee of 50dh is collected from each member and amount is used to cover administrative and organizational costs, guest gifts, and the maintenance of the website. Any surplus monies is given to a good cause. In recent years, they have been able to donate to facilities for the disabled, victims of tsunami and earthquake victims. GLAD have a monthly newsletter, providing information about the upcoming events of Glad and the German-speaking communities, such as the Swiss or Austrian

German Ladies of Abu Dhabi is well-received in the German speaking communities and their website (complete with their own ‘Yellow Pages’) serves many families while planning a move to the UAE, to find information about the country, schools, hospitals and other important information. GLAD is interested in cooperation with other women clubs here in Abu Dhabi and are keen to establish a network of exchanges.
