Raha Revolution

The idea behind Raha Revolution is to provide friendly, welcoming and accessible bike rides by adding a sense of membership, but without any kind of elitism or exclusivity. The emphasis of the rides is on promoting safe and sociable cycling, but the group also aims to increase fitness levels and riding ability through a progression of different levels. Raha Revolution rides are open to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

Cycling Abu Dhabi Raha Revolution

Friday rides will depart from the Mugg and Bean at 05.30 every Friday and follow the route and details shown on the sticky note in the website. If there is any change to the plan, a post will go up detailing the new plan. The Friday ride starts at 05.30 from the Mugg & Bean at Etihad Plaza on Khalifa City A. For the first part of the ride the whole group stays together at a maximum speed of 34 kph as we head out onto Yas Island. If you are new to riding or think you may struggle with this pace, then we suggest you follow the progression guidance given in the FAQ ‘Am I fit enough?’.

We come off Yas Island at the Yas East turn off and head down towards Al Reef and then out towards Zayed Military City. When we reach the roundabout at the Labour Camp (about 23km) we will stop for a couple of minutes for a water break. At this point the ride will split into 2 groups. A lead group will set off first, followed a few minutes later by the main group.

The lead group is for the stronger, more experienced riders. They will travel at a faster pace, requiring more concentration and a higher level of fitness. Those in the lead group will be expected to be completely at ease cycling in a group, including giving accurate and timely signals, being able to take their turn at the front without changing the pace and being familiar with techniques such as through and off. If you don't possess all of these skills, stay with the main group to get more experience before attempting to join the lead group.

The main group will travel at a maximum speed of 34 kph as it travels out past Zayed Military City and on towards Al Samha ADNOC on the main Dubai Highway. For the last 5km to the ADNOC at Samha the stronger riders in the main group might push a little harder, but there will always be one of the regular riders maintaining the steady pace for those who want to.

After a 15 minute break at the ADNOC, the groups will set off for the second half of the ride with the lead group travelling at a faster pace than the main group, which will continue to travel at a maximum speed of 34 kph all the way back to the Mugg and Bean via Al Rahba and Yas East – a total distance of around 110 km.

The Saturday ride is a shorter spin of around 50km, starting at 07:00 at the Mugg and Bean at Etihad Plaza on Khalifa City A. Due to large numbers and a wide range of abilities, there has to be a degree of compromise in terms of pace. The group sets off together and maintains an average pace of around 32/33 kph. After the underpass at the top of Yas, the group splits with those who want to go faster pulling away at whatever pace they choose. The rest of the group maintains the average pace of 32/33 kph for the rest of the ride. There is a sprint up the final hill after the groups come off Yas, but for safety reasons the groups must reform and come back to the Mugg and Bean together, preferably via Al Bandar.

As there is no safety car with us on a Saturday, all riders in a group will stop if someone has a problem.

Due to lack of numbers, the beginner's rides have been discontinued.

Please read the FAQ on Group Riding Tips before your first ride with us.
