Charity in Ramadan: how you can help

Iftars Charity Donations

Donations to charities is an important aspect of Ramadan, and many Muslims choose to give their charity for the year during the holy month. It's common for wealthier Muslims to give poor families Ramadan bags or baskets containing basic cooking items like sugar, oil, rice and tea before the first day of the month.

Even if you are not a Muslim, your help is very appreciated. There are some charitable organizations in Abu Dhabi, which are running volunteer activities during the holy month of Ramadan. You can donate your time, books, magazines, fruits or transfer some financial help.

Labor of Love UAE

During Ramadan Labor of Love UAE is focused on two projects: one to provide as much fresh fruit and dates to one camp of 700+ laborers to break their fast as possible (the goal is to provide for each day) and another to collect reading materials in various languages for libraries that will be installed in two camps at the end of Ramadan.

Anyone wishing to donate fruits and dates in large enough quantities can do so directly (at least 700 per batch) as those can be directly picked up and taken to the camp. For others wishing to donate for fruits and dates, they can contact Labor of Love UAE regarding how to go about doing so.

Also reading materials such as books and magazines in basic English, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu and Bengali, can be donated for the libraries. Pick up can be arranged.

Abu Dhabi Cause Connect

We are planning Iftar dinners at the West Coast women’s labour camp during Ramadan Fridays. Our hope is to fulfill all 4 weekends, though of course this will depend on response of volunteers/donations. We’ll start with 1 and work our way forward :)

Dates:

FRI JULY 27
FRI AUG 3
FRI AUG 10
FRI AUG 17

We will be doing this through a combination of:

1) Volunteer Food donations
Similar to when Rita/Pamela/Mariam organized Xmas dinners & Angel gave us her lovely cookies & Laiza cooked her fab chicken!) Contributors need to donate an item for minimum 50 persons (ie chicken for 50, 50 cookies etc)

2) Corporate-sponsored meals
Via hotels & restaurants which we are liaising with

We will also be looking into some gifts & prizes for the ladies. We have a donation of a desktop computer to add to their common room for shared internet use & are bringing in an IT volunteer to help set up a computer they currently have.

We will begin sharing the Iftar dinner schedule with the public & signing up volunteers on the first day of Ramadan.
