Golf Clubs in Bahrain

Golf is a great sport played competetively and for pleasure. It is a precision ball sport in which golfers use their knowledge of the elements and particular clubs to best propell the ball into a hole within a limited number of stokes. It is a popular sport among expats in Bahrain and is a great way to socials on and off the golf course.

The golf course is not a standardised playing area, but can vary in size and level of difficulty. A course is usually 9 or 18 holes and a game can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a whole afternoon. Each hole on the course must contain a "tee box" to start from and a "putting green" with the actual hole, and there are various other standardized forms of terrain in between such as the fairway, rough, and hazards, but each hole on a course and indeed among virtually all courses is unique in its specific layout and arrangement.

Bahrain has a couple of courses that have competetive games as well as leisure activities. Golf club memberships are often seen as prestigious and some have waiting lists or require a recommendation.

Royal Golf Club

Royal Golf Club, Bahrain

The Royal Golf Club, acclaimed as Troon Golf’s “Facility of the Year 2013”, is conveniently located just 20-minutes drive from Bahrain’s capital, Manama, and the same distance from the Saudi-Bahrain causeway.

The Club’s 7102 yard, par 72 championship course, designed by golfing legend Colin Montgomerie, offers a unique blend of links and desert golf, taking advantage of Bahrain’s natural rough desert terrain and combining it with vast manmade lakes. The championship course is complemented by the Mini Monty 9-hole, par 3 course which is ideal for beginners in the sport, junior golfers and those wishing to work on their short game. It is a scaled down version of its big brother with par 3 holes ranging in length from 60 to 140 yards.

State-of-the-art floodlights are installed on the back 9 holes of the Montgomerie course and across the whole of the Mini Monty course meaning that golfers can enjoy a relaxing round of golf day or night.

Additional facilities at the Club include an academy with shaded driving range bays and immaculate practice putting greens, a well-stocked golf shop and several award-winning restaurants. The adjoining country club boasts an outdoor temperature-controlled swimming pool set in beautifully landscaped gardens, a multi-purpose sports course, kids play area, and ladies and gents gyms, saunas and steam rooms.

The Royal Golf Club is open to the public. Visitors are welcome to book a round on the golf courses, book a golf lesson, enjoy the Club’s superb restaurants and purchase daily access passes to the country club.

Awali Golf Club

Awali Golf Club

AGC: where having fun is the priority, relaxation the reason and playing golf the means. You may play golf as a Member or as a visitor (only BD7.500 a round). AGC is located east of Awali village, about 30 minutes drive from Manama.
The 6309 yard par-70 desert course, Clubhouse and all other facilities are maintained by Bapco. AGC is primarily a facility for employees of Bapco, however Associate-Guest membership is available too. AGC is truly one for its members, run by the magnanimous voluntary efforts of its Committee. Surprisingly, the Clubhouse often lacks polite banter and genteel behaviour, especially at competition prize-givings. If we had a motto, perhaps it would be "AGC - for golfers who wish to play, rather than be seen to play".
Awali

Awali Golf Club is located to the east of Awali village in central Bahrain, very close to "Riffa Views" (often seen on road signs with a brown background - Bahrain Traffic Directorate's subtle way to mean the sign is actually directions to AGC).
