Accommodation

Brazil is a huge country; most expats are in the larger cities like São Paolo and Rio de Janeiro. There are several accommodation options available: apartments, condominiums, houses. These properties are usually rented out unfurnished and some without fittings.

Leases are good for two to three years. It is also important to note that in order to get a lease you must have your Brazilian Identity Card or Cadastro de Pessoas Fisicas, which can be applied for.  This is required when you go through a real estate or an Inmobilaria. Leasing is usually the option for long-term to permanent residence.

For short-term stays, temporary and private rentals are available too. Private and temporary rentals are properties rented out directly by the owner, meaning there’s less paperwork and more flexibility. A lot of these can be found in tourist areas like Rio de Janeiro.

Classifieds, bulletin boards and the local papers have many listings.

Driving License

You will need a domestic and international driving license to drive legally in Brazil. The country’s road network is huge; it is advised to learn this prior to travelling. For more information about driving in Brazil please visit: http://www.adcidl.com/Driving-in-Brazil.html

Only a person who has resident status in Brazil can apply for a a full Brazilian driving license. The process is fairly simple and you will only need the following documents to complete the transaction:

There are private and public medical facilities available in Brazil. Permanent residents may avail of the free healthcare from the government hospitals and clinics.

The public healthcare facilities are usually overcrowded and the lack of funding has affected the standards. Private institutions are therefore preferred by locals and expats, as these are up to standard especially in the more urban areas.

Health insurance in Brazil is also said to be expensive.
