The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) felicitated winners of the 2011 spring scholarships and Dean's Merit List at a colourful ceremony to celebrate Australia National Day on January 26

A total of 102 scholarships – entitling the recipients to 10 to 100 per cent off on tuition fees – were presented to undergraduate and postgraduate students for the Spring semester. In addition, 69 others were named on the Dean’s List in recognition of overall academic excellence in the past academic year.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rob Whelan, President of UOWD, said, “Over the past 18 years, UOWD has gained a reputation for quality and as a result we are known for the high quality of our graduates. We are delighted to recognize some really deserving students through these scholarships. In addition, we are proud to announce the new entrants to our Dean’s List which recognizes sustained excellence in all subjects.”

Gladwyn Menezes, a BBA student who won a 50% merit and sporting scholarship and also figured in the Dean’s List, said: “This scholarship crowns my happy experience in this university. I am delighted with the opportunities I got here and the recognition that has come my way. This university offers a lot; one has only to go for it. I think I can achieve anything now.”

Hanady Al Hashmi, an Emirati postgraduate student of first year Strategic Marketing and working in a pubic sector bank, said: “It is great to be recognised by the university through this 50 per cent scholarship. I worked very hard for it, and I will work harder to maintain my grades.”

Simran Ramchandani, a new undergraduate finance student who won a 50 per cent scholarship, said: “This will motivate me to work harder to excel in academics. I am looking forward to a fruitful experience in the university.”

The Dean's Merit list 2010 featured 69 Students from the Faculties of Business and Management, Computer Science and Engineering and Finance and Accounting.
