Review
I have to admit to not being a girly - girl when it comes to nails. I think people fall into facial, nails or massage categories for treats and I would usually opt for a massage. I have had a few manicures recently and have been experimenting at home with the new bright colours too. So when ExpatWoman was offered a chance to review the Bio Sculpture gel nails, I jumped at the chance of being the one to try them out.
I had not been to Roots Salon before and it was very easy to find; it’s on Beach Road just opposite the Jumeirah Beach Park and there is ample parking in front of the salon and round the side too, so all in all very convenient. I went inside and was introduced to Rosie my nail technician. She is very experienced and professionally trained and answered all my stupid, newbie questions, like can I still do the washing up etc. etc!

We opted for the French manicure option as this would mean I could apply different nail varnish colours during the month that the nails last and if I removed the colour I would still have the French manicure looking pretty underneath.

The treatment started with a normal manicure to clean and tidy up my existing nails and as my nails were really short anyway, Rosie decided to extend them a bit so they would all be the same nice length - cue the Hallowe’en type stickers on my fingers so that the extensions could be formed. Then different layers of the gel were applied to my finger nails and dried under a UV lamp. I found this bit very relaxing and I think I could have fallen asleep if I didn’t have to keep switching hands.

Each layer only takes 2 minutes to harden and dry and when all the different layers had been finished it was time to remove the extension stickers. Wow I had long nails!! A bit of clipping, shaping and filing later and it was time for the French tips to be painted on - and voila I had the perfect nails that I never imagined ever having! The whole thing normally takes an hour but as I had my nail length extended it took an extra half hour. You don’t have to get a French tip finish - the gel also comes in loads of lovely colours and there are many to choose from.
Then it was time for my toe nails to be done - which I was very excited about as I hate my feet, so I knew wonders could also be worked there! Rosie gave me a lovely pedicure to clean my feet up and prep them for their new nails including a lovely, but of course oh too brief for my liking, foot and leg massage - in fact I think I will be going back for a massage next time I visit the salon. The same process was applied to my toe nails and within 30 minutes my feet had turned from ugly ducklings into swans.

I left Roots feeling on top of the world and with the most beautiful nails I have ever had, wondering why have I never done this before? I am definitely going to keep them going and will try some of the colours for my next time - I am quite rough with my hands so polish always gets chipped - am looking forward to that not happening! I am also really looking forward to flashing my beautiful toe nails in my open toe shoes now and not hiding them under the table anymore!

I would highly recommend Bio Sculpture nails at Roots Salon to people like me who don’t usually do this and are ashamed of their nails and it’s about time they had nice ones, for brides, for holiday nails and for special occasions. The most important part for me was knowing that this would not damage my natural nails underneath.
