3000 pets are abandoned in Dubai every year, unfortunately it’s not a visible problem that people see every day. 

There is a problem that people do see every day: abandoned cars. Surprisingly, the number of pets abandoned every year is the same as abandoned cars.

Dubai based non-profit animal rescue group 38smiles has partnered with a local advertising agency to come up with a creative idea, in order to draw the public’s attention to the existing problem of animal abandonment in the UAE.

The idea was to install devices on the abandoned cars with the sound of ailing pets to surprise pedestrians around the city with a powerful message: ‘For every abandoned car you see in Dubai there is an abandoned pet you don’t see.’

With hidden cameras surrounding some of the abandoned cars, a video was filmed to show how the cars attracted the attention of residents passing by, and how the residents reacted to the audio sound of the abandoned pets In the video. 38smiles is an organization that focuses on rescuing and educating the public by assisting in fostering, re-homing and even raising funds for programs such as TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) to better the chances of stray animals in the Emirate. Kay Ivanova says “3000 pets are abandoned in Dubai every year. That’s makes it 8 pets every day. So we need to raise the problem and make people understand that it exist”.
