How to Manage and Fight Cancer
Cancer is unfortunately, one of the deadliest diseases these days. More and more patients are being diagnosed with the disease. Management and fight cancer is a combined responsibility of the patient, doctor and the family & friends of the patient.

A cancer patient requires good medical support and care provided by their near and dear ones. Cancer patients are often undergoing a lot of physical changes and psychological changes. The physical changes may be due to the disease itself such as weight loss, pain and other symptoms and also due to medical therapies such as hair loss, nausea, vomiting, skin changes etc.  the psychological changes include depression, anxiety, irritability etc.

The primary healthcare provider and immediate family members can help a lot to improve the morbidity of the patient. Encouraging the patient to take healthy diet and adequate supplements required to take care of their function. Moderate exercise can be incorporated on a daily basis.

Pain control and management is the most important support that many patients need. Regular check-ups with the oncologist and surgeon to ensure the disease is under control. Healthy discussion with the patient and creative activities are some other things patients can be encouraged to do.

Looking good while recuperating and fighting with the lethal disease is important psychotherapy to improve the quality of life. Many patients with hair loss are encouraged to wear hair systems to deal with the complications of cancer therapy. Improving form and function also helps the patient to fight the disease.

I always advise my family and friends to be alert and responsible. Regular health checkups can help identify more diseases at an early stage which means, they can be cured and managed. Indeed, October being the breast cancer month, we at Cocoona Centre for Aesthetic Transformation will be holding a free breast and skin cancer screen camp at both our Centres – Al Wasl road and JLT to give people the peace of mind and for the unlucky one’s opportunity of time – through early detection.
