Top 10 Things to do if Single in Dubai

While the family is an important part of culture in the Middle East, what do you do if you are single and came to Dubai alone?

It's no secret that Dubai is very much a safe and family-orientated environment, where children can play freely, families are able to rent a home and hire a maid that can assist with taking care of children. Plus, with an abundance of parks, beaches and children's play areas both in public and in the number of malls here, there's always something to do to keep the kids entertained.

But what if you're single, and came alone to Dubai? Is Dubai really great fun if you are on your own? Can you keep yourself busy and learn to make new friendships? Of course you can! Because while there's lots of family things to do, the emirate very much caters for the single woman, too.

So next time you're diary is empty, or you're finding yourself slowly, gradually getting bored... Stop! Because we're sure you'll find something exciting to do in no time.

Ladies Night an Evening with ExpatWoman

It's ladies night, and the feeling is right...
The best thing about living in a city such as Dubai, is the ease and accessibility of all the bars and restaurants just around the corner! And pretty much every bar you come across here will have some kind of deal for a ladies night; whether it's two free drinks, or free all night, you'll find that being a lady in this city comes with its perks! Grab a group of your girlfriends and head out, and if it's free all night, you're sorted! Or you can plan a route to visit a few places for a limited number of drinks. Traditionally Tuesday's are ladies night across Dubai, but you will also find that some bars offer ladies deals on other nights of the week, too.
If you're stuck on where to start, then you should come to An Evening with ExpatWoman each month! Ladies who attend get a special discount on beverages at the well known Emirates Golf Club, plus you can even try our signature ExpatWoman drink!

Fancy a brew?
As a single woman here in the emirate, you probably work full-time. But if ever you find yourself with a spare day to waste, then why not head to a coffee morning? They're a great opportunity to sit, relax and let conversation flow with friends, old and new. We've got an abundance of ExpatWoman coffee mornings that you can come along to and join in across the city; whether it's Mall of the Emirates, Mercato Mall, Festival City or Marina Promenade, you'll find there'll be one nearby that you can go to.

Grab the camera and go sightsee!
Your spare time can prove as opportunities to explore what Dubai has to offer - without having to compromise with a partner, family or children! Just think, that museum you've always wanted to visit? Go! The mosque you've always been fascinated with? Go and visit it! That piece of art you've been wanting to see and study? Take your time to go and see it at it's art gallery. We're sure your photo collection will get rather large, pretty quickly. It's important to remember, that in this ever-growing and ever-expanding city, there will always be something to find and see or do.

Gym classes Dubai

That gym nearby? Join it!
Yes, it's a thing we've all heard; join the gym, eat healthy, get active. And it's ever more prevalent in today's society. We're not suggesting you give up that last piece of cake, though. Why? Because there are a lot of gyms and fitness activities you can join across Dubai. From yoga, to pilates, to swimming, to the gym itself; there are lots of classes of each that you can go to and meet other ladies. You'll also find a lot of apartment blocks have gyms, and also communities will have a shared pool area and gym that residents can take full advantage of. It's best to use the gym and indoor facilities in the desert, summer heat. But as it gets cooler towards November, you can make use of outdoor activities, that you can also utilise with friends. Go to Jumeirah Beach and join a volleyball team, or go running, or treat yourself to roller blades and skate around the Marina Promenade or The Walk, JBR. And why not stick to Dubai? Surrounding emirates, such as Fujairah have the Hatta Pools that can make for an exciting trip.

Don't drive at the weekend...
While construction can prove irritable around the city of Dubai, the results are flawless and prove very useful if you're wanting to get from A to B. Single ladies should have no qualms about utilising local and private taxis as all are safe to use, as long as they're correctly labelled as a taxi service. Dubai's metro is one of the world's largest, driverless, automated forms of transportation and is very cheap, and very easy to use. You can get from one end of the city to the other in less than an hour! Plus, the Dubai tram can take you right round Dubai Marina and down Al Sufouh road. And thanks to the number of transportation options you have, getting around on a weekend is very easy.

Learn something new!
Have you always wanted to speak French? Or learn photography, make your own jewellery or be a hairdress or make-up artist? Maybe it's time that you discover a new talent within you. You can check these short courses for women to get you started! Who knows, you could be the next Coco Chanel or Annie Leibovitz!

Share your story with the Internet.
If you are passionate about something, or are learning a new hobby (see above: learn something new!), you might want to share it with like-minded people? The best way to do this is through the form of a blog! It's the easiest way to put your thoughts out there, and then share your posts across social media for individuals to read. We're sure there will always be someone interested in what you're writing, or doing. Take photos, too - great, big photos are an incredible way to show your likes and interests via a blog

Foster or adopt a new member to the family!
Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment, and if you are not ready to take this responsibility then fostering is probably the right thing for you. There are charitable organisations that can help you in the process, such as Feline Friends - a cat charity organisation that look for cat fosterers who are able to take care of a cat in their home, until a suitable, permanent home can be found. If you'd like to foster a dog instead, you can talk to K9 Friends. However, if you do believe you are ready to adopt a pet - whether a dog, cat or bearded dragon - they'll be a great addition to your home and they'll keep you company!

Water sports paddle boarding

Get out on the water...
You my be fooled into thinking Dubai has no outdoor sports to speak of due to the burning desert heat and humid climate, but that's completely wrong. You'll find that you can take up as many sporting activites as you wish, just like in your home country. And if you fancy a change from traditional sports, jumping right into more adventurous activities is completely doable here. Especially water-based sports; yes it's hot, so what better way is there to keep cool while doing something you'll enjoy? Paddleboard around the Marina at sunrise, or go wakeboarding or kite surfing with views of the Burj al Arab behind you. And all are perfectly safe to do.

Jump onto the snow!
Rather than water sports, you might want to learn skiing, or already be a keen skiier yourself. Is there really a better way of relaxing than taking it out on the slopes at the world's largest indoor skiing slope at Mall of the Emirates? You'll feel like you've travelled to a far off country, encompassed with snow, snowmen, penguins and actual ski lifts that take you to the very top. And the best thing about skiing? While it's fun to race alongside others, if you ever fancy going along yourself, that's perfectly fine. Free your mind while flying down the snow!

Volunteer...
There are plenty of charitable organisations here in the United Arab Emirates, and all need helpful hands to help with their events or daily business. Your bound to find an organisation and cause you're passionate about helping and supporting.

Stay connected with people from your home country!
Dubai and other Emirates have huge expatriate communities, and it always interesting to be between people from all over the world. But there are days for everyone, where you might want to speak your native language, keep some familiar things around your or celebrate your home country's holidays and special dates. The city already has British, American, Australian, Belgian, German, Russian, Scottish, Irish, South African, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian and so many more clubs and groups that you can join in.

Go shopping Dubai malls

Go on, splurge! Treat yourself!

From make-up, beauty products to home furnishings, designer shoes and cars... You'll have no problem finding something to treat yourself with! And we all know secretly, that retail therapy is good for the soul...
