This year’s Autumn Opera season will welcome three of the greatest ever works composed by Mozart
Dubai Opera has announced the schedule for this year’s Autumn Opera season. In September it will host three of the greatest pieces ever written, all of which are brand new specially commissioned productions of the collaborations between composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte. ‘The Opera Trilogy’ will comprise three operatic masterpieces by Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte.
Kicking off the season is The Marriage of Figaro on the 7 & 14 September. This witty yet profound tale of love, betrayal and forgiveness is played out over four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte based on Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’s 1784 play Le Mariage de Figaro.
On the 9 & 16 September witness Mozart's darkly comic opera Don Giovanni; an opera in two acts that delves into darkness with the tale of a young, arrogant and promiscuous nobleman who seduces, murders and betrays without remorse.
On the 8 & 15 September Mozart’s third and final collaboration with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, following Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni; Così fan tutte tells the story of two young officers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, and a wager between the two young men and a philosopher about the faithfulness of their fiancées. Desire, disguise, deception and deceit is then played out in a world where make-believe and reality are merged into an operatic delight.
Two of the most gifted talents in the classical arena are to perform at Dubai Opera this Autumn accompanied by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gianluca Marciano.
