The New Beachfront In Jumeirah, La Mer, Is Opening This Month

We have great news for all the beach lovers, foodies and shopaholics out there! Meraas Holdings announced that the first phase of their sevenths destination in Dubai, La Mer, is finally opening on Sunday, October 15th, 2017.

This new tourist destination in Jumeirah 1 stretches from the Jumeirah Mosque to the Dubai Zoo and is 13.4 million square feet! The beachfront development promises a fun day out breath-taking views of the Arabian Gulf and city skyline with a portion of it stretching out into the ocean.

La Mer is divided into four zones, the beach, a leisure and entertainment hub, North Island, and South Island.

Between the different sections, there will be something for everyone, from the foodies to the shopaholics, nature lovers, beach lovers and the fitness junkies. The more than 130 shops, cafés and restaurants will feature new concepts as well as established, licenced restaurants.

Shops have already attracted some of the world’s top brands and the beaches have been redeveloped to include free WiFi, information hubs, showers, toilets with baby changing and disabled access, prayer rooms, children’s play areas, day rooms, cabanas and mobile charging. There is also over 1,000 parking spaces and on-site valet parking.

The beach includes numerous fun activities such as the Hawa Hawa trampoline park (an idea that was developed in Japan), outside gymnasia, skate boarding, youth activities and beach sport. If you just want to enjoy the sun, however, don’t threat – there will be space for you to relax and just enjoy being lazy on the beach at the day rooms and cabanas.

There is also some coral that is unique to the area and La Mer has also taken great care to reserve this. They have even gotten divers to replant some of the coral. This will thus also be a great place for divers to enjoy the beauty of the underwater nature.

Next year a next section will be opened, called The Wharf. It is said that this section will have cinemas, a waterpark and more shops, cafés and restaurants.

Surfers can start getting their gear ready as the water park will be home to the regions first dedicated surf park!

Meraas is, at a later stage, planning to add a residential community and hotel on two man-made peninsulas close to La Mer. On their website, Meraas said: “The destination will innovatively combine upscale living with distinctive retail and leisure attractions, integrated outdoor living environment and engaging beach activities.”
