Dubai Driving Licence Renewal

If you've been in Dubai for 10 years it will be time to renew your driving licence. Here we take a look at how to get this done with the help and advice from the RTA website.

My Driving Licence Renewal Experience

So, I got a text from the RTA to remind me my driving licence was going to expire on June 14th 2012- and yes was like wow I have been here 10 years!! I called my local Grand Optics store to see if they did renewal of driving licence and yes they did. I had to take with me two passport size photos, copy of my passport details page, copy of my residence visa page and the original old licence.

It took about half an hour for them to do and cost me 130 AED for the renewal and this payment has to be made by a credit card.

As I was there I started to receive texts from the RTA saying: "your optical results have been updated", and ones that the renewal request had been submitted for processing- so it was good to know on the spot that things were happening.

The next day I also got emails confirming everything and that my new licence was being printed and would be delivered by Fedex in 3 days. I also received a temporary licence permit through email.

As if like clockwork my driving licence arrived all shiny and new today and the process could not have been easier.... it expires in 2022! Wonder if I'll still be here!?
