Fathers Day In Dubai

Here comes Fathers’ Day...
This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 19th in the UK and lots of other countries and it’s a day to celebrate fatherhood and to do something special for your dad.

Fathers’ Day History

Father’s Day was started in the early 20th century to enable fathers to have a day like Mother’s Day. According to history, Nora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a "father's day."

She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Nora wanted a special day to honour her father, who was a Civil War veteran and was widowed when his wife died and raised all 6 children single handedly.

After Sonora became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. It wasn’t until 1972 that Father’s Day became an official holiday in the US and has been adopted by many countries round the world.

Let’s take a look at some great gift ideas to buy for your dad…

  • Aftershave- have a peek at what he has already got so you have an idea of his taste and that will help you choose a new one for him, or if he’s running low on his favourite get him a new bottle.
  • A keyring- this is always a handy gift! You can get some very funky ones these days with attachments on too.

Father's Day Gift Craft Project: Family Faces Fridge Magnets
These are a great, cute gift that are really simple to make and are full of meaning and memories:

You will need:
Flat back clear glass marbles
Stick on round magnets
Family photos- not ones that have been framed- this is great for using those photos that are never going to be framed
Clear- drying glue
Pen
Scissors
Small gift box
Tissue paper

Step 1: First of all find photos of your family members that you want to use for the fridge magnets. Try and choose ones that the faces are nearly the same size on the photo and where people are pulling funny faces or smiling. You can place the marble over the face to see if it is going to fit. Once you have picked the face you want to cut out draw round it with a biro and cut round it carefully.

Step 2: You need to gently cover the flat back of the marble with a thin layer of the glue- you can use your finger for this. Then press the marble down firmly onto the cut out round of the face.

Step 3: Leave it to dry and then you can glue or stick the magnet to the back of the photo- and that’s it you are done! Repeat with all the other faces.

Step 4: Put them on a bed of tissue in a nice gift box and there you have the perfect, home- made Fathers’ Day gift.
