Dubai Post Explained

Many expats will be used to a door to door postal service in their home countries. This does not exist in the UAE.

Instead people use the PO Box system- either their companies PO Box address or you can rent your own personal P.O Box. These are situated at all post offices and some commercial buildings. 

How to get your own PO Box:
Documents Required:
Passport copy with residency stamp (passport must be valid for at least 6 months)
Two passport photos
A completed form- you can find at the post office.
You can also rent a P. O. Box online, but you have more location options if you go to the post office.
Subscription Fee for New P.O. Box: AED 50

For new tenants, the year is divided into thirds, for the first year only, as follows:
For Individuals
During the first 4 months of the year, rent is AED 200
During the second 4 months of the year, rent is AED 150
During the last 4 months of the year, rent is AED 100
(add AED 10 for every key you need)
For Companies
During the first 4 months of the year, rent is AED 500
During the second 4 months of the year, rent is AED 400
During the last 4 months of the year, rent is AED 300
(add AED 10 for every key you need)

Procedure:
Take the above mentioned documents and the required fees to the post office near you and you can get the keys to your box right away.

Service Features
As post box facilities are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subscribers can check mail at their convenience.  Subscribers can rent a post box in the area of their choice (close to their home or office for example).  Post boxes are available in all post offices countrywide.

Posting Out: 
You can purchase stamps at any post office and send letters and parcels within and outside of Dubai. There is also an express mail service and a registered mail service available. There are traditional post boxes in locations away from post offices but they are becoming few and far between- it’s best to go to the Post Office itself unless you know where one is! They also have a courier service called Empost if you prefer fast, trackable mail.

There are a lot of courier companies here, so many do choose to use a courier service for important mail that needs to be tracked- try Aramex, DHL, TNT etc. Watch out for special offer they often have around festive periods if you are sending presents home!
