New Cycling Tracks to be Installed in Dubai Communities
Cycling enthusiasts in the city will be very happy to learn that extra cycling tracks are being implemented in some of Dubai's recognisable communities

Led by Nakheel Properties, over 105km of cycling tracks will be installed between now and mid-2019, with the hopes of eventually connecting the city's communities and providing ease of access to areas for residents.

The targeted communities at present include Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Village, The Gardens and Discovery Gardens, among other areas.

Installation of the cycle tracks will happen in phases, with the first targeting the clusters of Al Furjan, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Garden View Villas. These will get a 40km track, while Jumeirah Village Circle will get another 27km.

New and upcoming communities will also have cycle tracks installed from the beginning, which is evident in the new 5km track planned for the under-development Nad Al Sheba community.

“Under our cycling plan, people will be able to bike their way to the shops, school and friends’ houses without getting in the car,” Ali Rashid Lootah, Nakheel’s Chairman, told Gulf News. “Cycling in Dubai has seen a huge surge in popularity over the last few years ... The whole city is going to have cycling tracks — and we want to be connected to them.”

At present, there is no information about whether communities such as the Palm Jumeirah and International City will have their own cycle tracks installed, but for now we're sure the new plans are most definitely a welcome addition on top of the cycling facilities already available in the Emirate, like Al Qudra Cycle Track.

What's currently available for cyclists in Dubai?
Pedal power is a great way to get around, and of course comes with many health benefits. At the moment, Dubai's cycling communities can make complete use of the Al Qudra Cycle Track that's laid between the Arabian Ranches community and Bab Al Shams. Plus, there's also the Meydan Cycle Park and other Dubai facilities and communities like The Lakes, Motor City, Mushriff Park in Mirdif and the Dubai Autodrome. Remember to always wear your helmet!
