Jan Robertson (a closet GoGo’s fan) caught up with Belinda Carlisle ahead of the fabulous Here & Now Concert in Dubai this weekend
Hello Belinda,
We are delighted to hear you’re coming to Dubai and looking forward to the concert. This 80s revival is really fun. For many of us it’s a trip down memory lane bringing back happy memories as it must also be for you. It must have been a heady time for a young Belinda Carlisle. Tell us a couple of high points....
....Too many too count.....the GoGo's and my "Heaven on Earth" album were two of hundreds.
You have recently released your memoirs “Lips Unsealed”. Can we look forward to some juicy behind-stage insights from the 80’s?
A little bit of dirty laundry, of course!
The GoGos were a hugely successful girl-band, very much ahead of their time. Do you think it’s easier for girls looking for similar success these days, or harder?
In some ways it is easier for females, we were told to our faces that we couldn't be signed (although we were selling out all over America), because we were all girls and there had never been a track record of a band before us who had success - there were the runaways and fanny, of course, but they only had cult success.
If you could duet with any fellow artist who would it be and what would you sing?
Kanye West, Usher....Jay Z and I always say Neil Finn
And we’ve been checking out the Carlisle-Mason Online Shop – things you pick up from your worldwide travels. Will you have time to check out The Gold Souk and the silk rugs when you’re here? ... a camel for your mantelpiece perhaps? .. or a crystal replica of the Burj Al Arab?
I love gold and rugs - who doesn't??? I do have a crystal replica of the Burj al Arab already!
Have a fabulous night at Meydan, Belinda – and wear something light; its going to hot!
