Hand Made Jewellery from Recycled Precious Metals
April Jones is an Australian expat living in Abu Dhabi. After previously seeking employment in her professional field, she hand crafts a range of jewellery from her home now. All her items are hand forged from recycled precious metals, repurposed decorative findings and found objects. April's studio practices and processes also ensure compliance with the most stringent environmentally sustainable standards.
Most of the chemicals April uses can be taken from the kitchen cupboard. For example, vinegar and lemon juice to thoroughly clean the silver after soldering, egg yolk can be used very effectively to create a beautiful aged patina or appearance on finished silver. In general most the pieces are made from silver which is recycled, either from a reliable supplier in Australia, or through the process of re-purposing old jewellery forms to create new pieces.
Some of the decorative materials such as beads and crystals are purchased new, though the majority are vintage or second hand, having been collected by April Jones over time during her travels. "In my view, this is one of the most rewarding things about the craft - the process of breathing new life into something broken or discarded, giving it renewed beauty" - said April Jones.
