Athena’s Quilts is a socially responsible business inspired by our 2 year old daughter, Athena. Our aim is to provide children with the most beautiful, handcrafted quilts while seeding a lesson of giving back to society – the same lesson we hope to inspire in our daughter.

 
Our artisans are women from a small village in Sindh, Pakistan. They come from struggling backgrounds, some widows, single mothers and mostly all victims of domestic abuse. They have no social or financial support but are extremely talented, creative and hardworking. Our ultimate goal is to provide them financial freedom and independence while bringing their art and our heritage back to life.
 

Through Athena’s Quilts, we also aim to support other charitable projects, such as the Government Girls Primary / Secondary School. This is an adopted campus for 250 underprivileged girls in Karachi. It provides free education, books and uniforms to the students there. These girls range from the age 5 o 15 years and are extremely bright and intelligent. Our goal is to provide a free of charge cafeteria so that the students can have at least one healthy and well balanced meal every day. For the past year, we as a family have been able to provide lunch once a week which is great on an individual basis but not even remotely close to our goal.

Each quilt comes in its own tote bag and with a fun and inspiring story book.  The story book, “The Tale of Athena’s Quilts,” is a colorful children’s book that communicates the lesson of social responsibility in a way that is fun and easy to understand for children.

25% of the proceeds from the sales of the quilts goes to developing and maintaining the shelter for our artisans. 20% of the remaining proceeds go to the Govt Girls Primary / Secondary School. With the purchase of each quilt, you will be a part of empowering these girls and women. We will keep you updated on the progress of all these projects.
