Bur Dubai

Bur Dubai | Area Guide DubaiBur Dubai is the second half of Dubai's traditional business district and lies to the west of Dubai Creek. Like Deira, it is also very congested and very densely populated.

Several hotels, shopping malls and consulates and embassies are located here as well. Bur Dubai is famous for 'Bank Street' and 'Computer Street'.

Additionally, it also contains vast textile markets and is home to a large percentage of Dubai's Indian population. It is also home to Dubai's tourist attractions of the bastakiya area, the creek and the Dubai museum. "Old", and some would say "real" Dubai living is alive and well in this bustling area.

Perfect for: families, couples & singletons on a budget

I live there...

Area: Al Karama, Bur Dubai

Name: Farah Shah
How long in Dubai? 32 years
How long in your area? 11 years

Family circumstance: Married with two girls (9 years & 6 months)
A bit about us: My husband and I have spent almost all our lives in Dubai. We are both gym rats and workaholic. He is a Regional Sales Manager at a foreign firm and I am a route planner to many of the prominent schools in Dubai.

Accommodation Options:

It mostly has low-rise buildings with rents ranging from 30-50K per annum.

Facilities:

It is a centre for cheap furniture and the covert sale of counterfeit branded goods such as handbags and watches. It is also famous for its bargain shopping and for its huge variety of good and affordable restaurants. They offer authentic cuisines from India, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, China, Thailand, and Singapore in addition to Arabic food and fast food outlets. A number of coffee shops, shisha cafes, confectionaries, bakeries and popular tea stalls dot every nook and corner of Karama.

It has the diplomatic area, containing numerous consulates, and Za'abeel Park to the south, a $50-million technology-themed public park opened in December 2005. It is very close to the famous Bur Juman Centre, Lamcy Plaza, American Hospital and 5-minutes drive to the Dubai Healthcare City and numerous other places.

Why I like living here:

As they say location, location, location! Being at the heart of Dubai, it provides easy and quick access to most areas of Dubai. 15 minutes to Dubai Silicon Oasis,  20 minutes to Dubai Marina, 10 minutes to the Dubai International Airport and 10 minutes to Mirdiff.

There is no place in Dubai which is “too far” from Karama.
