Nord Anglia International School Dubai
A message from the school Principal about the school.
First and foremost I would describe myself as a father of 5 children, each of whom is different from the other. For my children I want nothing but the best from their school. Nord Anglia International School Dubai is both my place of work and a place in which my family will go to school and grow into the people I want them to become. I have been with Nord Anglia Education for the past 6 years of my professional life as the Principal of The British School of Beijing.
BSB remains the only school to pass the inspection regime of the UK’s Independent School Inspectorate the ISI in the whole of China. We achieved outstanding academic and social results for our students.
This same passion, care and attention to detail will form the basis of our school in Dubai.
I am devoted to my family in the same way that each parent is devoted to theirs so this is a personal statement, it is also a battle cry for the very best education that we can provide. I would accept nothing less for my family and I’m certain that other parents are just as careful with their own children’s most crucial years. I look forward to meeting you.

What qualities and characteristics would you say define your school?
As part of one of the most successful international school groups in the world we will continue the traditions that have been a feature of all Nord Anglia Education Schools. In 2012, one in five Nord Anglia Education students won places at the world’s top 30 universities. Three of our students received full marks on their IB diploma, a feat achieved by only 109 of the 119,000 who sat this exam worldwide. 15% of all Nord Anglia Education students who sat the IB Diploma achieved a score of 40 or above, more than double the global average of 6%.Our mission, achieved through our high performance agenda, is to develop students who are both academically curious and successful.
Equipped with the tools to attend the worlds best universities and take their place as world leaders. We are led by Executive Principal, Michael Embley (formally Principal of The British School of Beijing, also a Nord Anglia Education School. BSB is the only school in China to be approved by the UK Department of Education and inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate of the UK) our school will offer the British National Curriculum combined with an international outlook. In addition to our academic tradition we focus on Behaviour and Social Graces (BSG) to give our students the tools needed to go forward as confident citizens of the world, able to thrive in all situations. We will offer an enhanced language range across all ages of the school for those students who wish to partake of the opportunity to develop in second or third languages from an early age.
Our offer will include French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Arabic taught during the school day. Sports and Music are integral to the curriculum and the development of the character of our students. In addition, as part of an international family of schools we are able to offer our students enhanced opportunities to collaborate with others around the world through our Global Classroom initiative taking place both online and face to face.
The Nord Anglia International School of Dubai will select students through a rigorous interview selection process and will focus on attitudes as much as aptitudes.

We will follow the British National Curriculum leading to IGCSEs and IB Diploma
How many Children are in each class?
There will be a maximum of 20 children in each class. Early Years classes will be smaller.
How do you feedback progress and attainment to students and parents?
Feedback is given through a variety of methods both written and verbal. Students books are marked using structured developmental comments and teacher/student conferences are held with each assessment unit. Tests are given at the end of each unit as well as at the end of each term and academic year. Peer feedback is used sparingly and where appropriate to develop all pupils involved in the exercise. We will use an SMS system to remind you about upcoming events and provide a whole school weekly Newsletter. In secondary school, each parent will receive an individual email every day informing them of the classes their child has taken and any homework requirements. In primary school, weekly or daily emails will inform you of the focus and activities that week for your child. In the Foundation Stage, there is communication during the week with photos and daily notes in their Home-School Communication Books. At the start of each term curriculum information comes home.
How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?
Through our parent portal parents can track student attainment and assessment at all times. Parents will receive detailed written reports three times a year. Parent consultation evenings will take place each term, along with student led raising achievement days, in which parents will be invited in to a conference with their child’s form teacher and child to discuss in detail their progress and next steps for learning
Where will your teachers come from?
All of your teachers will be highly qualified and very experienced practitioners, dedicated to developing enquiring young minds and supporting your child’s academic and social development.
Kindly add details of such parent group activities you deem will be of interest.
We welcome engagement from our parents. We hope to have many volunteers as class mums and dads, who will help us to organise events such as Halloween Discos, Easter egg hunts, International Day, Bonfire Nights and Welcome Back BBQs. We hope they will help to run our community youth centre, coach sporting clubs, read with our students in school and run our school coffee shop. The Parents’ Association Ball will be a must go to event; and will run, be managed and organised by our PA. It will give all our families a great opportunity to get together and have a night filled of fun and action! Our ‘Pastries with Parents’ events will be when Mums and dads are invited to come to school and share breakfast with their child.
Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?
Our transition programme allows students and their families to make a smooth start at our school. We provide lots of information on the class and school prior to your arrival and are ready for you from day one. To help students feel secure in class they will have a ‘buddy’ to look out for them in the early days. For our parents we will organise a series of events to help them settle into life in Dubai. We will offer a series of workshops called ‘A Helping Hand’, these will focus on Early Years Educations, Homework, Mathematics, English and Languages, as well as other areas if a need arises, to help our parents to better understand how and why we do things the way we do. We will have open days before the start of school and a welcome to our school family BBQ. For families new to Dubai our family liaison group is always ready to provide a helping hand in practical matters.
