Jewellery Care & Maintenance

Jewellery gifts in dubai
It is important for jewellery owners to be aware of the unique characteristics of their gem stones and the care they require to keep them looking good.

- Consider Diamond, Ruby or Sapphire for a more active lifestyles or everyday wear. Softer gemstones will not fare as well over long periods of time

- Be careful to store your jewellery separately – exposure of softer stones, like pearls and coral against a harder gem like, Emerald or Amythyst or Aquamarine, will be devastating. This applies to all the organic gemstones.

- Some coloured stone can be sensitive to light, heat and certain chemicals. Unwitting exposure to any of these can change the appearance of your gem stone forever. Always seek thorough care and cleaning advise from your jeweller.

- Excessive exposure to heat or unusually dry environments can cause irreparable damage to your pearls and opal jewellery including cracking, change of colour, loss of luster. Considerations should be made with other soft or porous stones like lapis lazuli, amber, tourquoise, shell, ivory and coral.

- Chemicals including your perfume, hairspray, make-up and body lotion can be harmful. Always put your jewellery on just before you walk out the door.

- Same applies for cleaning products or prolonged exposure to chlorinated water. Surprisingly, these can be damaging to your gold jewellery as well.

- Store bought cleaner will usually contain ammonia and are only safe on diamond jewellery. Don’t be tempted to soak your emerald earrings.

- Commercial ultra-sonic and steam cleaners can damage some stones – for DYI upkeep of your precious jewellery at home a very soft brush and a warm soapy water will do the trick. A clean make up bush is perfect.

- Frequently worn pearls should be restrung every other year
