Where to See the Super Moon in the UAE

For the first time since the 1940s, our planet's moon will be passing so close to Earth making for a spectacular show worldwide.

It's not often we have the opportunity to witness such celestial events in the UAE, but this time we won't be miss the fun!

Living as expats in the country's cities, it's not often we have the opportunity to stand in awe and star-gaze at the sky - unless you head out into the desert, of course - but this astronomical phenomenon happening this week will be very much visible to all in the UAE.

So set your alarm, as on Monday 14th November, there's going to be a huge super moon. So big in fact, that NASA has dubbed it the extra-super moon!

What's the big deal with the super moon?
Well, Monday's supermoon is going to be EXTRA super! We're serious! It will be the closest the moon has ever come to Earth in almost 69 years. And it won't happen until 2034.

Its closest approach will be at 6.21am EST when the moon is just a mere 221,523 miles (356,508 kilometers) away... From the center of the Earth to the center of the moon. Then the full moon will occur at 8.52am EST. On an average evening, the moon can be around 406,000 kilometers away so you can appreciate why we're excited to see it a little closer this week!

If skies are clear, the moon will appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal!

Of course, only real experts will be able to tell the difference. For us standard folk who lack in astrological knowledge, it might seem just like your average Joe of a moon. But that doesn't mean you should be ignoring it! If you find yourself outside, take a moment to peek at the moon, a great resource that all humanity can share and enjoy.

Where can I see it in the UAE?
For Dubai the rest of the UAE and our neighbours in Oman, the extra super moon can be enjoyed best at 17:52pm (GST), according to website Moon Giant.

If you're wanting to call up your close family and friends so you can moon watch together on different continents, here's the other times it's best to watch in various locations on Earth:
