Did she really mix it in there??? I thought so but others told me I misunderstood...
I agree- NEVER **** (no pun) off anyone handling your food or drink- NEVER
I hear so many of the same stories about maids with the urine and visine

Am I the only one who was really disappointed with the ending? I liked the book, but just feel a bit cheated by the ending...

I read this a few days ago after seeing it recommended on this forum. Enjoyed the manner in which the story was told through three different characters and the time it was set in. Dont have a maid but interesting perspective.

I met one woman less than a month after arriving in Dubai. She had been there 13 yrs at the time and had one very young son, maybe 20 months old. I met her at a mother and toddler group and she also had her maid there. I was horrified to see her literally snap her fingers at the maid to attend her son if he was upset about anything. "I come here for the coffee and adult conversation, " she said...not even checking that her son was OK. It was a very interesting introduction to Dubai for me!

Thank goodness, in five years there she was literally the only woman I ever met who behaved this way. Maybe I only surrounded myself with like-minded women who treated all around them with respect and had children because they wanted to raise children.

How many of you saw similarities between the employers in "The Help" and many of the expat ladies in the UAE? Particulary with respect to their expectations of maids raising their children?

I was worried it might be but it wasn't at all. You get used to it really quickly. Plus it's told in three perspectives and one of them isn't written in that tone.

I loved this book! Not sure about it resonating with those who have 'help' but I thought that it was beautifully told.

a great read! and even though I've never had a maid I couldn't help but wonder whether there were any similarities with some of the maid/madam relationships today

For those of us with maids it must strike a chord, no?

Anyone read The Help by Kathryn Stockett? I am absolutely loving it and reading s-l-o-w-l-y to make the enjoyment last.
