Thanks for the info about Sahara, Forever 21.
I think it's useful.

They actually meant Sahara centre, you just tell the driver to drop u off @ the Dubai side of Sahara centre-that's the fence separating Dubai and Sharjah and there's a small gate to get into Sahara centre/Sharjah -there you'll find Sharjah taxis lined up!! You can start you Sharjah trip on a new fare!

My point was simply that taxi drivers, like their passengers, are equally likely to be fairly new in the region. Every now and then you get a wise older driver who has been here for a decade or more, but often it's a fairly newly arrived driver.
I try to be empathetic to that.
By "people like you" I mean taxi passengers. (I'm not often a taxi user, so I said "you". But I am an occasional one, so let's change that to "people like us".)
We might know exactly where we live, and be familiar with the area around our home, but let's face it, the street naming system in the suburbs is weird, both in parts of Dubai and Sharjah. Even where the streets have numbers they're often not consecutive.

This is a bit nasty. I'm not "fingerpointing" at anyone LOL! If my spending hours lost in the roundabouts of the suburbs of Sharjah doesn't count as fact gathering then I'm not sure what does.
Anyway, there has been some interesting info on this thread. To be honest, I'd never thought about changing taxis at Al Mullah, but that's quite a nice thing to do, not to save Dhs 20 but to allow both your drivers to collect return passengers.

LOL @Megawatson - virtually all the drivers come from Pakistan, Bangladesh, India or Sri Lanka - that's got nothing to do with it. It's the fact hat they don't have any training on how to get about if you happen to get a cabbie that's new to the country.
Did you know that ALL cabs have GPS? But hardly any of them are shown how to use it. And saying not to expect a cabbie to know his way around is ridiculous - that's their JOB! Oh so a tourist who's just stepped off a plane is supposed to know where they're going?

Nope Mullah Plaza as it's on the border, if you go to Saharah Centre you're already in Sharjah.

@ Megawatson:
Care to explain?
"Taxi drivers from Pakistan or Bangladesh or India or Sri Lanka are likely to be pretty much as unfamiliar with the layout of the un-named and un-numbered streets in the emirates, and roads and maps, as other newly-arrived immigrants are, people like you in your villa with its name and number.
That's just the way it is. " AND "If you're travelling to Sharjah then please know EXACTLY where you're going, have a map book with you. Don't expect your taxi driver to do it for you. He should know his way around the Corniche, King Faisal, and a few other roads.
But that's about the most you can reasonably expect. "
Rather presumptious of you isn't it, assuming so much. This was a thread asking for information and nothing else, if you had nothing worthwhile to add you shouldn't have posted. Also, I suggest you gather facts before you start assuming/fingerpointing, its only reasonable.
Thanks again to all the ladies who responded to help, JulesinDXB, thats just what I did, took another taxi when I got there.

I'm born here & has been living in Shrjah all my life. I've been driving for 12 yrs. I can only reach the main streets like AL Wahda, Buhaira where I live, King Fisal & Immigration street. Sharjah Taxi drivers dont even know the way to any place other than those streets & most of the time they need direction. If u try to follow signs u will get lost as all streets r named after sheikhs & they all look the same.

I lived in Sharjah for a long time, explored extensively by vehicle. Tomorrow I'd still get lost on the dozens of roundabouts with this King and that Sheihk entering and exiting this complex system of multiple-entry-exit roundabouts in Sharjah.
If you're travelling to Sharjah then please know EXACTLY where you're going, have a map book with you. Don't expect your taxi driver to do it for you. He should know his way around the Corniche, King Faisal, and a few other roads.
But that's about the most you can reasonably expect.

Thanks Ladies,
Went early this morning and it was AED 90, it would have been much less if the driver didn't phaff-around so much. Even though I requested a driver familiar with Sharjah, they sent me one who then confessed not to know Sharjah! When i asked why did you come then, the reply was I know the way to Sharjah!!
Hey-ho, time to get a car.

If you're travelling to Sharjah at a time when the taxi driver will be stuck in traffic on the return to Dubai (6am to around 10am), you may have trouble getting a willing driver.
If you do, please tip generously for his slow return trip.

That's a long taxi ride. And I would think it is more than a hundred. I paid 70 the last time I went from Deira to Sharjah. You could try and take the Metro to Deira and then get a cab

When we did the trip it was added at the end (from Al Barsha 1)

Hello,
Could someone give me a rough idea of how much a taxi ride would cost me from Dubai (Jumeirah/ Umm suquiem area) to Sharjah?
RTA just said there is an AED20 charge to enter Sharjah but no other estimate.
TIA
