No x-ray if you're pregnant. I only said it was possible I was pregnant and I had no x-ray/TB test at all.

I'm not sure if you can register with g'ment hospitals if you're not a resident, but if you can find out about that, you're better flying in, and opening your file there/registering with them. You'll pay I think 7K (AED), then at least when you arrive at 36 weeks you can have your baby there. I'd also fly rather than drive. Driving that late can also bring on labour especially if the roads are bumpy. If money isn't an issue, though, I'd contact one of the private hospitals and see if you can have their package as they may be more flexible about residency as they are just for money. But the NICU is what you've mentioned which is why I'd opt for g'ment as otherwise you'll end up paying out your nose with private as you don't have medical cover. WIth the g'ment, ou'd then just keep getting your tests done where you are, then for every appt with them you call and reschedule until right at the last minute when you arrive and can see them - and make sure you're armed with all tests from your Dr there as they simply won't have time here to do them as g'ment is VERY, VERY busy (ie a high risk U/S has taken me 7 weeks to get an appt for).

They do a skin test instead which they recheck between 24/48 hours later

things are possibly slower in that there are more people trying to do the same amount of work in shorter working hours, so a little more queuing etc.

what does snip mean

You as the wife can have a residence visa in 24 hours if you had asbolutely all paperwork correct and did VIP medical.

Arrival evening + next morning immigration with Paperwork ready + medical at 8am + results 11am + resubmission of paperwork (correct with signing by DH) = visa stamping. Lots of running around but totally possible within 24 hours.

yes, a tourist visa may work and you may be able to change it to a residency visa after arriving but the other EW women would have to confirm that.
He should put the pregnancy to the front of his mind when negotiating with new company and include care as part of the terms and conditions. If he joins their company medical aid then you will be covered immediately as group cover doesnt have waiting times (usually) but just to say that my friends had their baby privately here 3 years ago and only cost them 7000aed for the full package including scans and hospital stay and they were very happy. They went to the Medcare centre. Hope you get sorted out and enjoy Dubai

Depending on your nationality, maybe you can come in on a tourist visa until your DH company gets all your paperwork sorted.

Thank you so much for your replies!

Yes I know it's late to be flying, and I'm not particularly happy about it. Qatar airways will fly until 36 weeks with a doctors note, and I don't know whether the 7 hour drive will be more stressful than the 40 minute flight., I'm trying to weigh it up.

It took about a month for my OH to get his residents visa here, and that was with a public company, so it was done very quickly. I doubt it'll be as quick for us this time.

We're waiting for the offer from the company, and obviously we're going to have to check the insurance policy carefully to check that it covers my maternity immediately (so a lot to consider).

I have suggested waiting, but my OH doesn't really see why (clearly he's never been pregnant!) so I was just trying to cover all bases so we can have a more sensible discussion about it.

Essentially, worst case scenario, I'll have to come to Dubai before the baby is born, so I wanted to be prepared for all the eventualities.

Any other advice you can all give would be a fantastic help.

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are currently living in Doha, and contemplating a move to Dubai.

The company my husband has interviewed with want him in Dubai asap. However, I am currently 25 weeks pregnant. So it looks like if we decided to move before the baby was due, it would be at 35-36 weeks pregnant (assuming I can get a doctors note to fly).

I have quite a few obvious concerns with this.

So I wanted some information on the following:

- Can I travel to Dubai with my OH on a travel visa, rather than wait for him to sponsor me?
- Can I use the NICU in the government hospitals even without a health card (I assume they will charge me for this?)
- How long does it take to get a residents visa?
- Are there any other things I need to consider about travelling to Dubai that late in my pregnancy?

Sorry, bit of a random thread, but it's rather stressed me out.

THanks

Doha to Dubai is not a long flight at all but it is still risky to fly that late in your pregnancy. Will any airline even take you that late regardless of a medical certificate?

Some companies can take ages getting the resident visa, medical insurance etc sorted it really depends on how good the PRO is.

Medical costs in Dubai are so high as well and yes you would need to pay government or private.

Can you not explain the pregnancy to the new employer and get them to wait till you have delivered at least? Its only a matter of another few weeks from the date you plan to come here anyway.

If they insist on having your husband here then surely they should be paying for your delivery costs.
