Is it possible if I can find out if my mother actually boarded her flight from manchester this afternoon? Last year she missed 3 flights for various reasons, wrong day (her mistake), she liked the snow (???) and I cant remember the other. She doesnt have a mobile, because people might call me and I dont want to talk to them, sigh......
Basically before I trek to the airport at 12.30 tonight I'd like to know it was going to be worth it.

simpleasabc :-( How awful for both you and your mum. Its a real worry from so far away, especially when they (mums) keep saying ok, fine, no problem etc. Fingers crossed for a happy reunion tonight.

No “weather warnings” for DXB tonight as yet. Mr Simpleasabc should be fine.

Morning all, just got up. Thanks Dragonfly*, still trying to decode it, I think MCT is Seeb in Oman (mother did mention that is wasnt Sharm el Shek but sounded like it???) She did say they did they went to an airport and didnt land as there were planes everywhere (well there would be at an airport lol) and that the plane went down to land but then came up again as a plane was in the way. Anyway mother is happily sleeping now, sadly I am not but wish I was. Wish me luck for the rest of the month ;-) You're right, MCT is Muscat-Seeb. Glad to hear your trauma is over. Sorry to hear about the state of your mother's mind. I doubt the GP is actually colluding with your ma to pretend she's OK, in my present experience of the NHS, they are all doing anything they can to save money, and if an obviously ga-ga (from pain-relief opiates, I hope) 85 year-old-woman living on her own, who can hardly move and is in terrible pain from what it has taken 3 months to diagnose as a "crumbled hip" who keeps landing up in hospital because she falls over her Zimmer-frame or has a TIA or both, is left by herself by the Social Services because she tells them she's fine and needs no help, she can look after herself, there is something very very very wrong with the system. They will take any excuse not to do anything and will not accept it when next-of-kin tell them that a patient needs help. It's crazy. Actually, my Ma's GP is excellent, and calls her every couple of days to make sure she's OK, but cannot interfere with the Social Services or District Nurses, who will only take direction from their "client". It suits them, I think, because of cuts. We're lucky she can afford to get private nursing help, otherwise, I don't know what would happen - she would knock herself out again and be found dead days later if it were up to the Social Services. Oh, sorry, rant over, had no intention of venting when I started this. Erme, anyone know where I can find out about the weather at Dubai airport tonight? Husbad due in from Zurich and am already worried..

Here we are................. The evening arrival peak was reportedly affected by enroute weather (thunderstorms) in the DOH control zone. Re-routings and vectors caused a disturbance to the arrival flow inbound to DXB resulting in extended holding. Several flights reported to be short on fuel. EK18 MAN-DXB exhausted fuel reserves and diverted to AAN. MCT initially assigned as alternate was unable to accommodate A380 a/c due to ramp congestion and parking constraints. EK18 required 01:46 hours (one fuel bowser). All make sense??

I am so relieved to read that she arrived that she is with you. Odd thing though being the nosy mortal I am, I checked where EK18 was coming from and EK's online status says it arrived at 0100 today - the plot thickens! Enjoy her stay, and try not to worry about her getting back home yet!

Ok so there is good news and bad news. The good news is she arrived, the bad news is (check the time of this post) we have only just got back from the airport. Due to land at 00.25, landed at 03.58 ;-) As you can imagaine I am overjoyed with having been up for 23 hours ;-) More bad news in the brouhaha she lost her coat. It turns out the plane was forced to land twice, once somewhere she doesnt know and then in Al Ain due to a storm. Any emirates people who have any clue what happened to EK018 last night please do tell because mother is a bit traumatised as there was no water left ;-( Still all will be well in the morning. lol.

I did book marhahba diamond service, 150dhs plus 2% for credit card, cheeky blighters. So she should be met as soon as she is off the plane. Last time she told them not to worry about me give that old lady a hand???!?!? I will of course let you know tomorrow that Insh'allah she arrived safely. Mot the time to say last year she left her flight bag on the plane, she remebered her handbag, forgot the holdall type thing and got her suitcase. We might have had a better chance of finding it if she had remembered to tell me she had forgotten it before two days had passed :/

Did you book the arrival shuffle old dear service at Dubai end? If not might be worth calling EK and asking them to assist.

She is 77, 78 whilst she is here. I tried to book the flight but she did it before I had a chance! When I call her same time every week, she gets confused if I ask too many questions, so the first question is when, then with whom, followed by more specific details. Last week she couldnt give me the details as she couldnt open the zip on the suitcase :-( I am worried about her in general, but she is as fit as a fiddle, but just a bit "absent minded". I am working on what will happen as I havent seen her since September. My gut feeling is this is the last time she will travel alone (no **** sherlock) and that soon, maybe summer when I am able to go back, we will invsetigate some form of sheltered housing type thing. As for info from EK sadly no joy but I do understand why and I have no complaints on that score.

for future reference, is there someway you could get the booking reference from her? If so, you can at least confirm dates and flights online - might even help if you call Emirates to see if she boarded? Worth a try if you're in a similar situation in future

simpleabd, Awesome. It never occured to me to call home. Doh! TBH mother is a bit of a nightmare she is at that stage where she doesnt beleive there is anything wrong with her and she has colluded with the dozy GP to say she is ok. We are worried and so are her friends, but to be honest i dont know them. She booked the ticket herself even after I have said for years its better for me to do it (it took me ages to find out what day she was coming, she kept saying I think its the first!!!) then I will a) know when she is coming for sure, b) arrange someone to take her to the airport and c) be just a tad less stressed. Oh and I remembered the third time, she was late and missed the flight, luckily DH perseuded Marhaba to greet the later flight without extra cost. Wish me luck. ETA No answer from her house ;-) fingers crossed edited by BNBH on 01/02/2011

I'm fairly sure they won't give you the info, for obvious reasons really, although YOU know your genuine, THEY don't and I believe it's against some rules to give out passenger info. Even the Police have a tough time getting info when it's a serious matter. Your best chance would be to ring the EK office in Dubai and try to fudge your way to the info - more chance than ringing the UK who would be much stricter. Good luck, sounds like a bit of a nightmare situation!

OMG. If I was the DD, next time, I would not allow her to fly unless she is personally escorted to the airport by a trusted friend or relative.

xxxx will get you straight to the desk at BHX - I know it's not Manchester but you've got more chance of getting someone who will be able to help you there than by calling them here (and I can't find the MAN number). I know her name will be on the passenger manifest if she's on the flight but I can't remember if they'll give out that info to you, sorry. Hope you get it sorted. Edited to remove number (but if you need it back again let me know). edited by DubaiCat on 01/02/2011

Oh, BNBH, that is brilliant :) Well, you could call her at home to see if she's still there, firstly :) Then try the airline and explain, though they don't like to give out that kind of information, I don't think. Looks as if you're going to have to trek out there anyhow..
