My husband and I are considering trying for our first baby here in Dubai, and as we're not 100% sure how long we're going to be staying in this country, I thought I'd do my research first before making the step to actually "trying" instead of just talking about it!
My experience with gynocological docs so far out here hasn't been great, and it actually put me off having a baby whilst living here. Could anyone recommend a great Ob Gyn that's made you feel really comfortable and that you've managed to easily bond with? I couldn't bear it to be anything like the experiences I've had so far with gyno docs...I know the two are very different things, but you're still dealing with the same kind of 'region'!! And I don't want to jump into things head first without having done my research. Any advice from women who have either had their first borns here, or those who decided to wait until going back to their home country, would be huuuugely appreciated :) TIA.

Hi, i love Dr. Malak Al Rawi at Medcare Mirdif. She's super sweet and supportive. The only thing which you should absolutely avoid is a vaginal exam at the end of your pregnancy in the future. What happened was that i wasn't told and didn't give consent to their intentional "poke" into the cervix. It caused me bleeding and 12 hours later made my water break. I was just 39 weeks along. Since the baby wasn't ready and it was the injury and not the baby's readiness launching the labour, i ended up giving birth for 53 hours and because i wasn't opening (again, it's the baby sending chemical signals to the body to eject the baby, without this labor won't start) they were ripping my cervix apart with bare hands. Not only i was bleeding like a slaughtered cow every time they did it (every few hours), it was more painful than the whole labor, plus it left a permanent tear on my cervix. I could't have pitocin because it can kill a person with a heart condition, secondly having pitocin during labor increases chances of the baby ending up with autism about 20%. Definitely research everything before you have a baby, the dangers of routinely given "vitamin" k, the untold truths about the dangers of vaccinating and the brainwashing us that we need chemical medicine for every slight fever. All the best!

After so much of search, I finally decided to go to Dr.Samer Cheaib from Fakih IVF. He is an OB/GYN specialist and really an amazing doctor. I am going to deliver this November. He really makes you comfortable which is actually needed when you see a doctor so that you can easily discuss all your issues. He is very polite and humble by nature. When I went to him I was flooded with lot of questions in my mind and hats off to him that he even answered all my silly questions. :D I had PCOS and was having issue in conceiving. He advised me what to do and don't,started medication so that I can easily conceive and I am glad that I consulted him and now going to deliver this November. Highly experienced doctor!! All the best.

Any experiences with her as I am planning to see her but have no idea how she is.. !!please help me as I am very confused . Thank u Dr Lubna In Saudi German hospital Dubai I recently delivered with her. She is an amazing doctor among all Obgyn there. She is very knowledgeable, uptodate, very committed and approachable. She always tries for normal Delivery. I was following up in NMC and Zahra before but I didn't like their management. So I switched to Dr Lubna as lots of my friends were following up with her and have very very good reviews. She always answer the call, easily reachable on Wats up. I would highly recommend her. Definitely if I'll pregnant again then I'll follow up with her from my 1st day of pregnancy and would love to deliver my another baby. :nerd::biggrin:

I highly recommend Dr. Koster at the Koster Clinic. She's kind, caring and knowledgeable about best practice. She truly cares for her patients and does not rush appointments. She's been so helpful in my journey with infertility and I highly recommend her.

Hi amel123, I have recently given birth to my first baby here in Dubai. I too was unsure whether to go ahead and try for a baby in this country or wait until I go back home. It was a big decision for me as I did not know many people in this country and would ideally have liked my family and friends around me. However a few of my friends back home have had trouble conceiving and are going through treatments. This made me think that there was no point waiting as I too could face problems like them and I don't want to wait a few years to find that it could take a few years of treatments before I was lucky enough to have a baby. Thankfully I did not have any issues and conceived first try :) I saw Dr Ibrahim at City hospital throughout the pregnancy and can't recommend him highly enough. I was very nervous at first about seeing a male Dr but those nerves disappeared the first time I met him. He is very professional, friendly, polite and re- assuring. I felt that I could ask him anything and he always fully explained everything to me. He was fantastic in the delivery room too - can not fault a thing :) Also it is amazing how many people you meet that are in the same situation as you - I have made so many new friends since I found out I was pregnant and do not know what I would have done without their help and support. Plus all the ladies on here are fantastic at offering advice if you are a clueless new mum like me! lol :) Good luck with making your decision - if you do decide to go for it then happy trying ;) Hi Kts, Is it true that Dr Ibrahim does only C-sections?

i am currently seeing Dr. Ibrahim at City Hospital, i think he is great however so difficult to get an appointment with and not flexible at all. He only seems to do obstetrics appointments one or two days per week, with the other days as gyno days. Due to this i am looking to change doctors someone who is a little more flexible and personal. Does anyone have any experience on Doctor Britt Clausson? or perhaps recommend another clinic completely? i am travelling from Abu Dhabi so perhaps Saudi German or Al Zahra. Most importantly a doctor who is pro-natural. Any advise would be great. Thank you. I'm seeing Dr Britt for my fourth pregnancy and think she's lovely. All three of my children were born here but each one at a different hospital and the best experience so far has been at Corniche Hospital in AD.

Hi, I have had two very good pregnancies and deliveries with Dr Yuliya and I am surprised about the attitude that you talk about longinjumeirah. I have always found her thorough and she has always been very straight with me. I haven't really had any serious complications so I guess I have been an easy patient but I would not hesitate to recommend her to people. I definitely agree that Hazel is great but she also speaks very highly of Dr Yuliya and followed her from the Cooper Clinic to the new practice! Well, as I said, it's always individual; I'm sharing my own experience, which, unfortunately, wasn't great. I tried with dr Yuliya after reading some feedback on Expatwoman ( even after first so-so impression, I gave it few more tries, as doctor is definitely a human being and could also have bad days). I would like to advise to all mum-to-be not to fully trust someone's else recommendations/ positive experience and listen to your own intuition- which will never fool you! And it's not at all about how difficult or easy patient you are. If after each visit you have to spend sometime in internet checking for the information your obgyn failed to provide you with, if the doctor doesn't explain things clearly and completely, if the doctor is not really interested in your personality, then just try someone else- it's a matter of your health and, more important, health of YOUR BABY. Good luck! edited by longinjumeirah on 12/05/2014

I've been thru 3 at the same clinic and and am really happy now with Dr Liliana Skorski at Healthbay Polyclinic on Al Wasl Road. I originally went to Dr Jozsa (man) there on recommendation but he was quite vague & I proper ask loads of questions, Dr Oksus I found rushed me and didn't spot a cyst (my friend really likes her tho so maybe I got a bad day, was a bank holiday). But when I finally met Dr Skorski I can honestly say she's fab and I look forward to working with her when I'm pregnant. She's the only one who went thru all my family history, my mums MC history, my grans etc. I've been with her for 6 months now. She's got a lovely manner to her and answers all my millions of questions well. She gave me her mobile number at the first appointment and has been great whenever I've contacted her. She likes a natural approach and doesn't push you to do anything you don't want, only offers you tests if you want to go down that route and if she thinks they're applicable. I also wanted to stay with someone that delivers at City Hospital. After my D&C with Dr Jozsa there I really liked that hospital (despite being in for a rubbish reason) & want to deliver there when the time comes, the staff were lovely. Sounds mad but I was determined to stay at that clinic, it has a really nice feel, the nurses are all super lovely, they have english midwives and has great reviews for their anti-natal classes etc, which I'll fully use as I feel clueless about what to do when we actually have the baby. They do first aid classes, baby massage etc, all the stuff my SIL really recommended we do.

My gyn is Dr Yuliya Mikhael who's now with Cooper clinic. She delivers at Medcare and now at American Hospital as well I think. She was previously with City Hospital but moved to a clinic. I cannot say enough good things about her. She saw me from about the 11 week mark all the way through. I had to have an emergency C in the end and she was wonderful through it. Brilliantly done with me up and walking in less than 18 hours. I chose to move with her to Cooper rather than find someone else though she let her patients know she was leaving ahead of time (not where she was going until the end though because she's very ethical and professional like that). Even though Cooper does not offer direct billing and the paper work is a hassle and you don't always get the entire sum back, to me it was fully worth it! Overall being pregnant with and giving birth to my first baby in Dubai was a much better experience that I had expected. Good luck! I used to visit dr Yuliya during my first trimester. Right from the beginning, I realized, that on my precise questions she is only giving common generalizations. Once I wondered if epidural has side effects ( or if there are any possible complications after doing it), and, surprisingly, she told me, that ''I had no clue what I was talking about'' and, without explaining anything, gave me epidural advertising print-out from the internet... When I informed her, that I used to take Retinol Palmitate (Vit A), and asked, if I can continue, she told me- Yes, you can continue as much as you want, unless you tolerate it! I checked in internet about Vit A during the pregnancy to make sure and discovered, that this vitamin is a NO-NO for pregnant women, as it can seriously harm your fetus... I seriously started to worry about how she was handling the consultations. This and many doubtful information from dr Yuliya, along with her ''mentor'' attitude activating once you start asking your essential questions, discouraged me from continuing with her. To be honest, I don't mind doctor's attitude, unless he/she is professional and trustworthy. Certainly, it's very personal, but I didn't trust dr Yulia. On a positive side- femiclinic, where she's practicing now- is a small clinic, where there's no crowds of people, very clean and newly equipped. Nurse Hazel- is fantastically knowledgeable and very experienced (I asked her all the questions left unanswered by dr Yuliya and Hazel provided me with the most valuable info/answers/instructions/sugestions ). edited by longinjumeirah on 02/04/2014

Dr. Rosalie Sant at Primavera Medical Centre 04 375 4699 (a few blocks from City Hospital). She is amazing, professional yet friendly and very patient. I had to have an emergency c-section in the end and she was encouraging and kept me calm. I believe she specializes in high risk pregnancies.

I am seeing Dr George Michaelidis at 9 Medical in Healthcare City. He delivers at City. He is pricey but completely worth it. He is a Fetal Medicine specialist so heaven forbid there are any complications, you'd be in good hands :-) I am having identical twins, sharing a placenta so am considered high risk. Nicola How exciting! Identical twins! That's amazing :) Congratulations & good luck! Thank you for the recommendation x

hiya, i also saw Dr Ibrahim at city hospital. He is very nice, soft spoken and sweet actually. I liked very much his approach, he will surely answer all your questions. I did a lot of reading myself during pregnany and that already answered most of my questions, and also taught me that labour is so unpredictable, so you must not expect your ob gyn to go into detail as to how it will happen if you know what I mean! But I can assure you that you d be in good hands with Dr Ibrahim and at City hospital when the time comes, as all the staff there seem to really care what they are doing, from my expreience they are pro natural birth and are not pushy with anything. Also if you are wary of epidural, I would say you are also in safe hands as I had one and the doctor doing it was great, very nice and efficient, done in 5 mins! The City hospital is very good, its very international and I doubt its any less good than any hospital in the world! if you are planning on breastfeeding as well, the nurses and midwives are fully trained to help you the first few days, which is also really important to consider. I gave birth there a few short weeks ago and I had a great experience there, and seeing its such a wonderful moment in your life, its lovely to share it with nice staff you also seem genuinly happy and are so helpful to you. good luck!

Hi there! I went for Dr Nasreen at American Hospital. She's very sweet, gentle, but also very helpful with my millions of questions (this is my first). She can be quite brief in appointments, but I didn't want to make a friend, just have a great Ob Gyn, so that doesn't bother me. Really like it over at American Hospital for my appointments / scans / tests etc - and I like the fact that I am visiting the same hospital that I am giving birth in, so will feel very comfortable when we finally swing up in 10 weeks time in labour! Good luck with making the decision!

You'll hear loads of horror stories but to me it was reasonably balanced. It is very medicalised in its approach to birth, but if you are clear about what you want and not afraid to insist on it, you will get it. Overall being pregnant with and giving birth to my first baby in Dubai was a much better experience that I had expected. Good luck!
