Hi, yes I did buy it in Dubai in the Nakkash Gallery on SZR years ago. I brought a make called Rausch and Dedon which were quite expensive however my Mother brought hers around the same time, from ACE and hers looks as good as new too. http://www.nakkashgallery.com/ The smaller the weave the more they are likely to snap on the edges so try to get wider weaves if you decide to buy.

@Geordie No worries! Thank you for your input. I will check it out and here's hoping it's still available @ladymary Thank you! That DOES sound like tough furniture! I assume you did not buy it in Dubai? Do you happen to know the brand? I guess that is the difference with the real and synthetic rattan sets.

I brought my rattan furniture 12 years ago, Its been in British winters and Dubai summers and still looks like new. If you buy the small weave rattan they tend to break at the corners or edges. I would get the bigger weave and the best quality you can afford. I wouldnt have any other garden furniture now.

We have a syntetic rattan set (like all of the restaurants use, as mentioned previously). For 3 years we've kept it in the balcony and now after 3 years its all falling apart, so I would not recomment it either. ETA: I think the reason behind many restaurnats using it is because it is relatively cheap. edited by LovelyLilies on 28/01/2015

Anybody else have anything to add to this thread? I'm concerned with buying something at an affordable price, but then having it look and feel like junk in a year. Any other recommendations? If you can wait till I get home this evening I will check the make of ours. Bought from Ace a couple of years ago and still going strong. It's metal and mesh with cushions which we take in during the summer. We also spray it down with the hose at least once a week :) edited by Geordie expat on 28/01/2015

I would happily recommend Ranches Furniture rattan. Way more reasonable than the big shops but much nicer than the shiny cheaper sets. It depends what you are after - we live in the ranches so it was just so easy too as they are only down the road!

Agree with Daza; we are seeking out a set of synthetic rattan. My DH saw a set at Dragon Mart ages ago for 700 dhs. 2 chairs and a table. We just haven't had the gumption to get back there. I figure if most of the restaurants/resorts use this style for their outdoor seating, it must be really resilient and easy to clean.

I forgot to add - my sprinklers will hit the furniture everyday as this will be placed on grass. So I need to consider this as well. Thanks for your replies.

I've found synthetic rattan to last the best. We've had our set for over five years, the cushions have needed recovered but the actual furniture hasn't faded or worn. You can buy it from many places, here's a couple: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ranches-Furniture/331718476879178?fref=ts http://www.parasoldubai.com/index.html Also Dragonmart, Carrefour, Ace etc Thanks so much Daza.

We are searching for a new outdoor furniture set and would like your advice on what type of material to purchase - wicker, aluminum etc? Will Wicker fall apart, will aluminum be too hot etc? Any advice would be welcome....
