I have read on here that several of you have been recently to Vietnam.

A friend of mine is travelling in May and tries to convince me to join her.
I am not so keen because of Malaria....

Did you take any malaria preventive medicine when you traveled there?

Sorry for my ignorance, I have read only one article on Vietnam and in that it was suggested to take malaria preventive medicine.

TIA

My boys took tablets while trekking and living in villages last jan. Recommended by EK clinic and the school.

We went last year and we didn't take anything. We also went to Cambodia (inclusing Siem Rep). I do have a very laid back approach to health matters though so am probably not the best example!

I looked into it and did not take malaria preventative meds. My understanding is that, if you go to Siem Reap in Cambodia (often associated to a trip to Vientnam), you need to take it because there is a lot of stagnant water. Otherwise, it is not necessary. edited by Loukoum on 10/01/2013

I've been several times and have never bothered with it. Where in Vietnam are you going? If you're staying in the main towns/cities, you don't need to worry. If you're venturing into the jungle areas then obviously it's a different story.
