Hello,

I am interested in doing a dental implants in Dubai. I am very young, but I have lost some of the back teeth, so the best option is the dental implantation. I would like to hear some personal experiences and some facts about this procedure because I don't have a clue about it.
I know that every person and medical history is different, but I believe that you could help me make a general picture of the process of the implantation. So, let's begin:

1. The process of implantation, how much and when does it hurt?
2. How long does the process last and will I be able to work and function normally during it?
3. Do the implanted teeth really look like the real ones, or that is another marketing trick? (very important)
4. If the jawbone accept the implanted teeth, is there any risk of any pain afterwords? I am referring when you are flying, or when the time changes or when you are pregnant? (I ask this, because I have a lot of pain in the arm that I have broken a years ago, so I kinda have that fear that any procedure could cause me similar pain)
5. Do the implanted teeth need an extra attention?
6. How much is the average price per tooth? (I know that that depends on the which tooth you are planning to do, but I just need to know any average price)
7. Who is the best doctor in that area in Dubai?

Thanks a lot :)

I had my dental implant done at Sky Clinic Dental Center with Dr Rabih Abi Nader in the JLT Branch. And I have to say that it was one of the most seamless experiences I have had with a dentist. Also considering the procedure was a bit complex and not just a simple cleaning or polishing job. Th doctor made me feel very comfortable and at no point did I feel nervous. You can check him out https://skyclinicdentalcenter.com/dental-implants-dubai/

[quote=comp99][quote=Silke888]I strongly recommend Same Day Dental Implants. Dr. Costa is great. I did a tooth last Christmas with him and was very happy with all. And yup, Same Day means the whole...
Same Day is quite expensive and provides the same quality as other good clinics. I have been to Sky Clinic jlt for my implants and its been 5 years i have no issues and the quality they are using is top notch. I would recommend dr rabih nader and sky clinic to any one.

(I know that that depends on the which tooth you are planning to do, but I just need to know any average price) 7. Who is the best doctor in that area in Dubai? Thanks a lot :) 1.) Cost depends on how many you having, my husband had 3 and with the permanent crown it cost around 30000dhs with professor steen at dr michaels. He said it was very tender the first week of having them placed but after that nothing. you can continue as normal but need to avoid hard food, crusty bread for the 1wk to 10days. 2.) procedure, took him a few hours and had two appt only cause they work on one side at a time and my husband had in two areas. was back at work straight after each procedure. 3.) He had the implants placed when the teeth were taken out, straight into the sockets and had temporary crowns placed first, with dr chris j. at the same clinic, they cant put permanent crowns because its takes 1-3month for them to integrate to the bone and only once it has they then do the next stage and that place permanent crowns. Temp crowns are just cheap alternative for the initial stage. 4.) he has had them now for a year no issues at all....no pain 5.) special cleaning i believe, my husband had to buy a sonicare tooth brush and had little brush to clean in between (not that he uses them though!) he does see a hygienist there regularly who knows how to clean them 6.) About 10000dhs per tooth 7.) We highly recommend Dr chris and Professor steen, most people i know see chris and prof steen worked at Eastman dential hospital in london, i believe he is a real surgeon. As a ex- dental nurse i would not trust anybody else here. its so worth it if you can afford it, terrible loosing teeth. and if you have missing teeth you get bone loss which changes so much with you face and mouth....all the best x

It's possible because they have an in house lab. You go in the morning and have the implant put in. You come back later that day to have the crown put in. It worked out just like that. So is that the permanent crown put in on the same day? No further visits beyond that? That's right. You have to go back once after a few months to make sure all is looking good, but that is it.

I strongly recommend Same Day Dental Implants. Dr. Costa is great. I did a tooth last Christmas with him and was very happy with all. And yup, Same Day means the whole procedure is done on a single day. Yes that's very interesting. My DH is going to get an implant done and he is being informed about the usual 3 to 6 months time span for the whole procedure. Never heard of same day implants?? The normal time would be months between the implant and the permanent crown, its strange that Silke888 did not answer our questions particularly since she registered especially to bring up this two year old thread to make her post.

How did they finish the extraction and the implant, take the mouth moulds and make and fix the permanent porcelain crown all in one day? Interesting, how long were you in the chair to get all this done?

Hi there. I'm extremely happy with my doctor (Dr. Ali Nazarian) he was also at the Boston university but he's now moved to DentCare in healthcare city. I think he charges similar to what some others have mentioned for implants. My main concern in seeing any doctor, especially dentist as it is frightening, is expertise and comfort. I truly feel comfortable with this doc and he IS very good at what he does (veneers and implants, etc) Also you should make sure u c a specialist Prosthodontist because I know there are some general dentists that will do what the specialist does but obviously not as good because it's not their forte! Good luck! edited by Elabella1 on 14/02/2013

First part of the implant undertaken on Wednesday. ie.the actual implant into the jaw bone not the crown. Much easier than I thought it was going to be. The worst part being the injection for the anaesthetic in order to undertake the work. If you have ever had a root canal done.......an implant is ten times easier in my opinion. My face was a little swollen for a couple of days after the implant and it was a little sore round the gum the following day but nothing a couple of paracetamol didn't get rid of. As a result of this, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Dr.Ashee or having further implant treatment with her if required. I do however now have to wait a few weeks for the implant to graft with the bone before the crown can be added. I have though had work on a crown done previously with Dr.ashee so have no concerns there. Hope this helps. Good luck. Thank you, you helped me a lot!!! I was very frightened and I didn't have a clue about it. Could you tell me the average price of the procedure?

I am undergoing dental work at cocoona on Al Wasl road and am being treated by Dr.Ashee Rajabali. She is a great dentist, brilliant with nervous patients and fully qualified in the UK in both general dentistry and then implantology. The prices at Cocoona are reasonable albeit perhaps not the cheapest in Dubai. However Dr. ashee's professionalism warrants the prices. I shall be having an implant on Wednesday so will report back with the results/ any areas of concern that may be useful. Great!!! I wish you all luck and painless treatment! Write me back with results. :)

I had an implant done and am quite pleased with it. It hasn't given me any trouble at all. No pain during flying or cold weather or drinking hot/cold drinks. Don't remember the operation being particularly painful except that immediately afterwards I was gagging quite a lot because of the cotton in my mouth. So you might want to prepare for that? Only complaint is that the false tooth didn't fit very tightly against an adjoining tooth so I now have to use an interdental brush after eating. You shouldn't have that problem if your dentist is very good. Also it looks just like my other teeth. Am also using a single denture and wouldn't recommend it- too fiddly. I didn't get my implant done in Dubai so can't answer any questions with regard to costs, dentist etc.

Also I was very happy with Dr Roze's implant a few years back and that's why I followed him from Drs Nicholas & Asp when he opened his own practice.

They do because the dentist actually makes a hole in your jaw to stick the big peg that is in fact the implant!

Thank you all, but do the implants really look like the real teeth? like they have grown out of your jaw?

Hi, I had an implant 2 weeks ago at Drs Nicolas (Dr Stein). I had a root canal and crown for my front tooth (bike accident!) 20 years ago which needed replacing (the crown post fractured and they couldn’t get it out which caused complications). This was over a year ago but this time the RCT and new crown and post failed after a few months so the dentist recommended an implant. I almost broke down as after a total 12 hours in the chair already trying to sort it out months earlier – to find out it was all for nothing! The dentist told me an implant was nothing compared to the post removal and RCT and I would not feel any pain. I am a very nervous patient (understatement) so was also prescribed Xanax (which is no longer available so they use valium now). And I can honestly say so far it has been a dream compared to the RCT. The tooth extraction was very quick, painless and dare I say it easy (as it was a front tooth or what was left of it). I had a denture fitted which I was dubious about but after 4 months it doesn’t bother me anymore. After 3 months I went for a CT which showed I needed an artificial bone graft. Again more dismay but this was actually done at the same time as the implant but it did not hurt one bit, the sensation of him tightening the implant was a bit surreal! I floated in and out and was all done in 40 minutes! I had a check up last week and now I wait for another 3 months when I finally get my crown which I will be excited about. The implant crown will be the same as my last. And it is shaped to suit your own teeth. Because it is a front tooth they built the bone up and filed the denture to let the gums shape and get perfect symmetry. They really are paying attention to detail. The only issue I had the ast time was the colour. But now I get a second chance I will make sure I am 100% happy with it as this should be for life. The crown I had for up to 10 years was a perfect match (my dentist in the UK). As for maintenance I am told regular cleaning and dental hygiene is the norm. There is 98% success rate and there is no reason mine should fail but it does happen and without reason so I just have to hope mine works. It is recommended also that you should not smoke. Think the costs are as follows: dental extraction total 3460aed. implant + surgery + bone graft = 11140aed. Think the crown is approx 4000aed. Not cheap but hopefully for life :)

I was considering getting an implant last year but in the end decided to go for a bridge. I was told by my dentist that an implant is like minor surgery and should be treated as so. I would have had to have an extraction then leave it for 3 months to settle before getting the implant. Regarding your question re whether you will get pain or not in the future, that is impossible to answer. You just need to make sure that you use a dentist who will guarantee their work if anything crops up . Things cannot be predicted 100% and a good dentist will point this out to you too.

Hi missbojanita - Here is my experience with implants. I have so far 1 implant with crown, and just got 2 placed a couple of days ago. My understanding is that you must have the right jaw (wide enough bone) to have implants. My dentist had some special x-ray done to determine that. My jaw is sore right now because the extractions happened a couple of days ago and the implants were just placed. I cannot say placing the implants hurt but the extractions were difficult (of course). I do not have any pain with the implant placed 3 years ago. Extra attention -- flossing, brushing, cleaning every 6 months, all that done for regular teeth too. Per tooth, 2 prices for implants quoted by my dentist: AED 7,500 or AED 9,500 Crown: AED 4,000. Implant pegs are put at the time of the extraction. Crown is placed about 6 months later. I cannot eat on that side of the mouth during that time. I used the same dentist for the three, because I was very happy with the result of the 1st implant: Dr David Roze.
