Hey, I just wanted to know if anybody has done this?
I have an appointment for Wednesday but I am still very concerned about the price: 8500aed.
Has anybody paid less somewhere? The test I will be doing is called Prenatest but I read in the newspaper that there is a competitor on the market with a test called NIFTY.
The reason why is because my blood work didnt come back positive, and I have a medium high risk for Downs. With my first pregnancy I spent 7 months thinking I had a Down syndrom baby as at that period my blood work came back as a very high risk for Downs and brought down the normal result of the scan. Because I had a history of miscarriages I refused to do invasive testing but now with this non invasive test it seems like a perfect solution except for the price of course. Oh I forgot to mention, I am 38 at this point.

I went to California with my friend who had non-invasive prenatal paternity testing. It costs 1700$ in the USA. And the testing is accurate. I know, she spent a lit of time choosing the service. As you know, only non-invasive testing is permitted, other - dangerous. So, she chose this service https://dnasu.com/services/prenatal-test/ Results came very quickly. I know she was very nervous about paternity item, so testing helped her so much. Yes, it's expensive, but if it makes you calmer, just take it. Learn information on services and take.

So I received my results on Thursday and turns out my baby has no trisomies. Nothing in life is a certainty but I feel like I can enjoy my pregnancy now without the worry of my baby being born with Down syndrome. Thanks for all the concerns and I wish you all positive Prenatests. Good news it is KenzaB. :-) Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! x

I just want to sound a note of caution here as it sounds like some doctors either don't fully understand this new type of testing or (sorry to sound cynical) are even selling it incorrectly perhaps as a money spinner. This testing cannot be considered fully diagnostic. It is still under development and accuracy of testing so far only relates to relatively small sample sizes of high-risk mothers. Anyone considering this test might want to read section C ('Maternal cfDNA screening') in the latest position statement from the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis online [url=http://ispdhome.org/public/news/2013/PositionStatementAneuploidy4apr2013.pdf'>here[/url'> . Personally I can completely understand the wish to avoid invasive testing but it still holds that only CVS or amnio is fully diagnostic. If you got a positive result for one of the trisomies from the blood test, you would still be advised to confirm this via invasive testing. If it is negative and you are comfortable with the accuracy levels of your results, then no need to do any further testing.

Ugh, I am so extremely disappointed! I sent a message today to ask whether my results happened to be in yet and they informed me that due to easter in Europe my results will take another week. So only by the end of next week I shall know whether I have a positive or a negative diagnose. I feel this information should have been shared with me the day I drew blood, easter doesnt just creep up on people and if labs close than patients should be informed! Feel like crying but to angry for that now. I am so sorry for your delay!! i just did my test a couple of hours ago, it was very smooth & easy, they assured me the results will come in 15 days exactly! i told them i have heard about a delay in sending results they explained saying they ship the tubes same day but the delay was from Germany b'cause of ester but they have managed it now. I expect to get it 23rd April.. can't wait, please kenzab let us know when you get your results.. best of luck xxx

As I understood amniocentesis was also not a 100% science, it seems to be 99,4%. It is normal for fetal specialists to convince you to have an amnio, it is their bread and butter obviously. Unfortunately they don't promote the non invasive testing and in stead tell you that after non invasive you always have to confirm with invasive. I guess the margin on the non invasive test isnt profitable enough yet. I have emailed with the owner and called one of the doctors here and they have confirmed to me that their lab in Germany hasn't made any wrong diagnoses yet so I think that sounds hopeful. This is the website of the distributor: http://www.genpharmservices.com/contact/ They are quite friendly and helpful so I am sure they can tell you if your doctor has the possibility to prescribe the test. Bummer about the price drop to 7500 , I work really hard and pulling out 8500 this month was a huge sacrifice. Akia, I think prenatest and maternity21 are similar, except that prenatest is produced in Germany and Maternity in the US. The doctor I saw in City Hospital said it is a diagnoses and not a risk calculation so I am going to believe her. I am still crossing fingers all is well. Wednesday I have my result and it feels like time is standing still.

Interesting thread! Not sure about this kind of testing. I had the amnio done due to some soft markers showing up. I know a lady who was told that the non invasive test she did is negative for ds. Turns out she had a son with ds! She was pretty upset. This test was done in the US and is called Maternity21. Not sure if they call it here differently. Like a pp said, my Doctor in Dubai told me that only the Amnio can give you a result of 100%. In order to check for if the baby has normal chromosomes, you need to count them. And she said the only way to count them is by getting the fluid. I am so confused. I really hope for you that this test is accurate as they say! Would be nice to avoid this invasive testing for pregnant women! I remember it being a very unpleasant and scary feeling! Best of luck! Let us know!

Hi Kenzab, my doctor advised me yesterday to do the same test ( prenatest) she said it's the only non invasive test that gives a diagnosis! Also she mentioned that because of the high demand the price starting from this week is getting down to 7500aed :) hola lucky me. I booked to do it this tuesday! Ah btw i asked her about the 1 in fetal centre and she said it doesn't give a diagnosis and this is why they are pushing us to do invasive ufff! Wish me luck xx Do you know by any chance if they offer the test at Dr Sulaiman bin Habib Centre in Healthcare city? Pls update us on your diagnosis results. It is supposed to be 99.999% accurate.....

Hi KenzaB, could you advise where you did the test? Which hospitals / centres offer it? As I understand it is fairly new, but also reliable. Good luck with your pregnancy, and keep us posted Well, I called the distributor of Prenatest in Dubai and asked them which doctor in City Hospital could do the test as I am fully insured with them. They recommended dr. Azizunissa and gave her mobile number. I called her and she took the time to explain the test in detail with me on the phone. I then went to see her 1 week later and what she does is a full scan (similar to 12 week scan) and than an informative talk about the test and how it is done. They dont take the blood in CIty Hospital but she gives a prescription to perform the test in a specialised lab in Health Care City which is across the street from City. I do know that the Fetal Centre also has the test but they advised against it when I asked for it as they say invasive testing is the only way to be 100% sure. To each their own opinion but I am to much of a chicken to have a needle near my baby. I do hope for future moms that the price will drop because 8500aed was a big chunk of money for me.

So anyway, I went for the test on Wednesday the 27th and now have to wait 1 more week for the results. The lab claims that its 99.9% certainty that they can either rule out Downs or confirm that baby has it. The waiting period is killing me though.
