Just FYI I got some Manuka Honey today from Holland & Barrett in Dubai Mall and they have an offer for buy 1 get 1 half off.
The lady said for babies UMF rating 5+ is enough, for adults 10 to 15 UMF rating is good. Higher is more nutritious but you shouldn't have more than a teaspoon a day of the high rated ones.
I got a good deal on Manuka Gold brand and it tastes amazingggg. DD is down with a sore throat really hoping it helps her!
Just really do your research re brands.
Strangely enough, I read a report in the Sunday Times discussing the purity of Manuka Honey just two days ago and the opportunity for fraud in this market is unbelievable. Unfortunately, the Times has a pay-wall so you can't read it online, but suffice to say: almost all the world's Manuka honey comes from NZ and they reveal that 1700 tons are produced annually.
This goes against the assertion that 1800 tons are sold in the UK each year, and that 10,000 tons are sold worldwide.
So just be sure you know what you are buying. Do your research and learn the recommended brands which come with an assured purity factor. And don't pay over the odds for something which isn't Manuka.
HTH.
Raw as in on the honeycomb? I don't think so.
you can buy honey/honeycomb in Spinneys, it's in tubs and usually near fruit/veg/bakery section i.e. not i the honey/jam section!
There's a honey store just opened in Mercato Mall, outside Aldo Shoes - they sell honey, not sure what kind though. Make sure it is the legit Manuka honey otherwise it's properties are as useless as the kind you can buy from spinneys.
So the ones from spinneys have useless properties ?
Milk'n'Honey have a range of Manuka honeys and they vary in 'percentage' as to how strong they are. Some of them are practically medicinal; you would NOT spread them on a crumpet. Also very expensive. But very good stuff.
