It's a long shot but is there anywhere you can rent an evening gown here?

There is a mall called Al Bustan Centre in Deira which pretty much specialises in evening gowns - shop after shop of dresses. Some of the shops make dresses to order, but a lot of them sell ready-made dresses. There is every single style you can imagine under the sun, from simple to extravagent. The prices are very affordable for what you can get.

I've found good gowns on sale at Debehams, but it's hit or miss. You might want to try http://www.myexwardrobe.com/ , it's a clothes swap / resell in Dubai. I haven't tried it, but I've kept it bookmarked for my next formal event!

I agree re: Ekaterina & Maria... in Mazaya Centre, Lamcy and a couple of other places. I got a fantastic prom dress there (could have been worn as wedding dress only it was pale green lol) for only AED490.

Try Maria& Ekaterina in Al Mazaya Center. They do mainly bridal but have evening gowns as well. Also, Debenhams has really nice gowns, especially if you find them on sale. I have been to the bridal shops Izzy mentioned and I was not able to find anything, all a bit OTT for me lol.

have you tried the small bride shops in the small malls in jumeriah - jumeriah centre / jumierah plaza / Beach centre / the one with Magrudy's - they hire DJs so would think they do evening gowns too.
